The Macleay County Council at its initial meeting decided to abolish meter rents when the county takes over the Kempsey Electric Light and Power Co. Ltd. Existing tariffs remain until the council studies the system. Aldermen debated revenue from meter rents, with estimates around 850 per year, and the motion to abolish was carried amid differing views on finance and consumer burden. The Macleay Argus reports.
