A list dated September 30 1912 presents the Republican ticket headed by President William H Taft with running mate James Sherman. It names W R Green for Congress Geo W Clark Linet for Governor W L Harding Secretary of State and other state offices including Auditor Treasurer Railroad Commissioner Supreme Court Justices and county officials.
An Agad Grapevine notes the scuppernong grape, an old yielding variety planted by Sir Walter Raleigh’s party in 1584 on Roanoke Island. The vine thrives, covers land with fruit bearing branches, and remains highly valued. People offer prices for vines and cuttings from its branches.
Mills County posts a two day soldiers reunion with assembly in the court house yard, speeches by Mayor Donelan and Senator Gilliland, a barbecue, campfire program, and band music.
