May Want to Hold Spring Pigs This Season
Iowa State College farm economist Francis Kutish reports a shift to more early spring pigs reduces midwinter hog supply. He expects higher lard prices and stronger pork demand to lift hog markets in January and February, even for heavy weights. Farmers should monitor prices to avoid overstaying May and June pigs. A 5 percent rise in fall pigs could appear in summer markets if June intentions hold.
