Pacer Drops Dead On Randolph Track

Catfish weighing 42 pounds captured near Swallow Hill
Joseph Peters and M C Joy saved a huge blue channel catfish from shallow river water near Swallow Hill. After repeated attempts with sticks and a hook, the 42 pound fish was finally hauled to town and sold to Kunrman and Ramge meat dealers. The captors endured a lively scramble as the fish fought to escape.

Malvern Prisoners Re-arrested After Drunkenness Case
Peterson and Stevens, Malvern prisoners given ten days in county jail for drunkenness, allegedly stole a half barrel of alcohol from Burlington depot. Detective Harrison re-arrested them after release. Trial at Malvern Monday bound Stevens over to grand jury while Peterson was released. Mergin found guilty of selling liquor contrary to law and fined $50 or jailed in default.

Concrete Bridges Draw County Officials to Inspect
County Supervisors Murphy and Cozard plus Adams county W B Gray and about six Villisca men visited two new concrete bridges near Adams county. The group praised durability noting concrete bridges do not rot rust or wash away and require less upkeep. One bridge cost about 200 dollars, equal to the wooden bridge it replaced.
