Glenwood reports its usual mix of visitors and events. Notables include Supt. M. C. Galpin of Emerson schools, J. R. Cannon’s Yeoman lodge enrollment, and Rex Theatre updates with Papas Boy attraction. Local concerns mention shoe sales, dairy, and band concert plans for February 17 at the opera house.
Mary Ellen Kelley was born in 1854 at Dahlonega Iowa. She moved with her parents to Mills County later and lived there most of her life. She married Parl P Kelley in 1875 and had four children Mabel Sanders Jewell Minnie B Wiseman Fred W Kelley and Ruse L Kelley. Survived by daughter in law Elizabeth West and brother James K Baker. She had been ill and treated at a Lincoln sanitarium, died February 6. Funeral at Pacific Junction today conducted by Rev J C Harrin. Interment Glenwood Cemetery beside her husband.
Henderson Times reports Miss Virginia Johnson, a teacher north of town, spent weekend at home in Glenwood. Miss Floy Wind of Council Bluffs arrived for a week’s visit with Mrs. Gertrude Lentz and others, then the West family moved to Macedonia. Mrs. A B Harlan of Des Moines departed Tuesday to join her husband and future relocation.
Residents report small movements as farms change hands and kin visit. E M Duke sold residence to Bertha Bauma near Henderson. Olin Wilk inson farm of eighty acres sold at 125 dollars per acre. Mrs W Q Oliver returned from Tabor visit with Joe Oliver family. Prank Severn moved from A S Paul farm south of Henderson to a farm north of Emerson. Roy and Susie Dunsden from Tabor and Ruby Thornton from Ainsley visit R V McClenahan family.
The first case was Wm Hunter v O M and E G Diller with a $300 note dispute. jury awarded the plaintiff about $218. Fleming v Stubbs resulted in a verdict for Fleming with jail sentence for Stubbs not to exceed 30 days. Clatterbuck v Mass settled out of court. Meyers v B & Q railroad on trial. State of Iowa v Briley arguments finished, jury given. Extra jurors drawn: Black, Miller, Crow, Cook, Crisawell, Shaw, Flanagan, Cheney, Bell, Linville.
President Frederick W. Long of Tabor College distributed advertising for the Short Course to be held at Tabor College from February 28 to March 6 while in Glenwood. At a recent Epworth League social at the Fleming home about 25 young people attended the program featured by piano duets, vocal and piano solos, readings, and social games followed by refreshments.
