Health Minister Desjardins unveils a five year capital program totaling 153.4 million with 519 new personal care beds including 337 replacements and 40 million in new projects this year. Immediate tenders total 23.8 million for hospital upgrades and new units at Winnipeg St Boniface and R H Institute. A 20 bed Glenboro personal care home is among the starts along with Reston Grunthal Steinbach Morden and Arborg hospital redevelopments.
Portage la Prairie Collegiate students Ken Shirriff and Darin Meseyton won the first Tiger Hills Computer Challenge Cup at Treherne Collegiate. Crystal City runners up Bill Thiessen and Dean Buchanan earned book prizes, with third going to Baldur Collegiate’s Mark Ramage and Darcy DeBaets. Special thanks to Computerland Winnipeg’s John Spisich for the cup and judging.
The 24th Tiger Hills Music and Drama Festival held in Treherne April 27 to 30 drew 542 entries with about 2000 participants. Adjudicators included Mrs. Sidney McInnes and Mr. Henry Peters and Miss Holly Leslie won the Rose Bowl with Miss Marie Hacault taking the Tudor Bowl.
