Farm Lands Ownership Act aims to curb absentee ownership

Manitoba agriculture minister introduces a bill to limit absentee ownership by non-farm corporations and foreign investors. The act targets gains in farmland by 1971–81, seeks to stop short leases and land consolidation, while allowing local residents to buy land. Retired farmers and foreign residents with intent to reside could own land, but current owners may not expand holdings. Soccer World Cup opening in Spain and Blue Bombers pre-season note flank the policy article.
