The correction states the last week photo of modern dancers included Earl McKenzie and Babe Sampson was right for that float. The dancers listed after were from an old time square dancing float. The two floats were mixed and it is unknown who else rode the modern dancing float.
Emma Thornbo rough provided both pictures this week and says Ivan Nairn drives Ernie Garnett's black team in the 1930 60th Birthday parade. Mr. Wood serves as Seed Growers Leader.
Manitoba fiddling enthusiasts travel to Holland for the 19th annual Manitoba Open Old Time Fiddling Contest at the Holland Community Centre on Sunday June 22. Events include a Saturday dance with guest Ivan Hicks, pancake breakfast, noon registration, and a 1 p.m. fiddling start with Paul Graham as MC. Fort Garry Elks 504 Tiger Hills Arts Association and Holland Lions sponsor.
South Cypress RM increases general mill rate to 71.6 mills for 1986, up 6.9 from 1985, to fund roads, snow removal, policing, fire protection, libraries, and other services. Education taxes add 1986 school mill rates for Tiger Hills 29 at 94.8, Souris Valley 42 at 95.7, and Beautiful Plains 31 at 80.7.
A Cairo court upheld traditional gender role norms by ordering a wife to return home and perform cooking and domestic duties, declaring a husband’s place in the family kitchen and that outside work does not override his marital authority. The ruling followed a dispute over a wife seeking independence and police assistance.
Allan Greer of Glenboro won the Championship Flight with a 74 at the Glenboro Men’s Golf Tournament held June 14 and 15. Bob Ferris of Killarney was runner up and Tim Dyck of Winnipeg placed third. conditions on Sunday reduced the field to 146 of 162 entrants.
