Kiwanis Peanut Campaign Aids Beach and Red Cross Efforts

Glenboro Kiwanis members host a weekend peanut sale with salted and roasted nuts and peanut brittle. Proceeds support Beach and Playground facilities and Red Cross swimming instruction. A banquet by United Church Women precedes remarks by local hockey figures and a Canada Russia film to close the evening.

Brandon Couple Wins Golf Event in Glenboro

A Glenboro two ball four some tournament concluded Sunday with winners across flights. Championship flight saw Murray and June Clark take first, Aa and Myrna Greer second. First Flight winners Cliff and Vickie Williams with Jack and Wilma Gowanlock second. Second Flight victors Dennis and Sharon Forest led Tig Davidson and Elvina Jamieson in Glenboro. Third Flight champions George and Barb Wallis followed by Glen and Agnes Witherspoon in Glenboro.

Glenboro elementary held a May 29 tree planting with grades 1 to 8 planting three Siberian elms and three American elms. Rev George Millard prayed and speeches were given by Reeve Martin Vertz and Mayor A L Clarke. A June 6 auditorium program featured O Canada, prayers, and readings with 275 students receiving medals for Canada’s centennial.

Field Day Winners at Glenzoro May 26

The Glenzoro elementary school field day on May 26 with rain showers saw winners across groups A to F. Top scorers included Terry Oliphant and Kelvin Dowd in group A, with many students earning high points. Junior trophies went to Robin Carels and Allen Lew, while senior girls’ trophy went to Tiannys Christie.

A Centennial Committee meeting is set for Thursday June 15 at 8 30 p m at Glenboro Rink. Representatives from all organizations are welcome to attend to finalize plans for June 25 when the Centennial Caravan arrives in Glenboro.

In Elgin a large crowd watched Glenboro win 5-3 behind Harry Lalonde who allowed six hits and struck out five. Lawrence Reed took the loss with eight strikeouts as Glenboro collected three Don Barr hits and two apiece from Tvan Donald including a homer. Cubs’ Murray Thomas and Reed had two hits each.

Students Witness First Aid Display at Glenboro School

Mr. Charles Brown of St. John's Ambulance led a 244 hour first aid display and lecture at Glenboro elementary on Thursday. He demonstrated stings bandages and oral artificial respiration on students as models and explained Holger-Neilson methods. He suggested a local first aid course could run if twenty residents showed interest.
