Mixed Blessing For Farmers Warns NFU President Mayne
NFU president Jim Mayne says if export wheat prices reach 6 per bushel by 1980 it will be a mixed blessing for farmers. He cites poor spring weather, heavy European winter kill, rising oil prices, and currency weakness as key influences, warning higher prices could hurt developing nations and inflation. Mayne also sees Canada benefiting from energy self sufficiency and calls for Petrocan retention and nationalization of the oil industry.
