A Canadian postal reform plan approved in 1986 hides steps to privatize rural post offices. It envisions privatizing 3,500 rural offices and amalgamating others within five miles, ending most small community outlets and replacing delivery with landscaped mini park sites and stamp agencies. Citizens urged to contact their MPs to oppose.
Santa arrived Saturday December 6 with floats decorated cars and emergency vehicles as the Kinsmen Club staged its annual parade. Judges awarded first to the honey Christmas float by Glenboro Hospital Staff and named Hansel and Gretel and K-40/Kette as honourable mentions.
Manitoba Hydro offers free electricity for municipal ornamental lighting for two 23 day periods each year. The scheme marks the 21st straight year of the holiday tradition, tracing back to 1935 when the utility pioneered free festive lighting for rural areas.
The 1986 Glenboro Junior Bonspiel sponsored by the Glenboro Curling Club featured sixteen rinks over December 7 and 8. The Marcy McDonald rink from Carberry won the A event led by skip Vonn Titus with Marcy at third and Murray McMillan at second.
