On Friday afternoon August 19 the old Pool B Ogilvie Elevator was demolished and hauled away. Built in August 1924 it held about 35 000 bushels in 18 bins and stood nearly 80 feet tall. Past managers Earl Cline and Jack Howatt watched the tower fall as a newer facility to the east prepared to take over the grain business.
Manitoba officials urge rinsing empty chemical containers at least three times and puncturing them before disposal at collection or waste sites. They warn improper disposal risks contamination of farm water supplies and long term cancer hazards from dioxin and furan.
Allan Greer performs during Glenboro Sidewalk Sale on Broadway in the monument area. A patio set drawing drew shoppers, with Glen Tosh winning the lawn set prize and enjoying summer days in comfort under an umbrella.
Pat Foote of Killarney won the Championship Flight at Glenboro Golf Club on August 13 as 86 golfers enjoyed a sunny day. Bran don’s Norma Bradley finished second with Val Ford of Glenboro third, followed by flight winners across four divisions and additional honors for longest putt and drives. Spruce Woods Inn contributed prizes to the event.
Break ins and thefts occurred at Wawanesa Solo Store the Co op and Macleods Stores in Glenboro early Wednesday morning August 13. A Glenboro citizen alerted RCMP after burglar alarm. Suspects seen at Co op and Macleods. Vehicle used and stolen goods recovered near Glenboro United Church with no arrests yet.
