Record Campers Hit New High at Spruce Woods Park

Spruce Woods Park north of Glenboro on Highway 5 reported 354 camping units registered on Saturday July 30, a park all time high. With four persons per unit, well over one thousand campers occupied the grounds and visitors swarmed the beach and picnic areas. Friday night had 306 units and Sunday night 278. Pine Fort Days drew crowds with a black powder shoot tomahawk throwing bannock bake and more at the Visitor Services Centre. A report notes items stolen within the grounds during the weekend.

Break In At Glenboro Golf Club Night Theft

Unknown intruders gained entry to the Glenboro Golf Clubhouse by breaking a window during the night of Tuesday July 26. A microwave oven belonging to clubhouse manager Margaret Black was stolen along with golf balls gloves and cigarettes. RCMP are investigating.

Summer School of the Arts Calligraphy at Cypress River

Steven Jackson of Roseisle Manitoba teaches a morning calligraphy course at Cypress River School starting 9:00 a.m. He is a University of Manitoba Fine Arts graduate and former magazine illustrator. The afternoon session at 1:30 p.m. continues drawing and landscapes with student projects encouraged.

Harness Racing Brings Weekend Event to Glenboro

Harness racing returns to Glenboro this weekend with events on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The Manitoba Great Western circuit plans 38 days at sixteen locations, tracks are fast due to hot dry weather, and a Manitoba Sire Stake division is scheduled Saturday. Local owners and drivers include the Cullens, Gullett, Mooney, the Mannings, and others.

Senior Men Hold Tournament at Glenboro Golf Course

A senior men’s golf tournament was held at Glenboro Golf Course on Monday July 2 with 59 golfers. Winners by age brackets include Jack Roberts Brandon and Ronnie McKinnon Gladstone, with other top finishers from Portage la Prairie Cypress River Neepawa and Glenboro.
