Leslie Eugene Spinks, 23, died in a Fort Worth hospital after critical injuries from a one car crash near Glen Rose, Friday dawn. He, a Glen Rose native, had 24 blood transfusions, survived by parents J D Spinks and three sisters, and was buried at Squaw Creek Cemetery.
The Community School Organization of Glen Rose schedules the annual Fall Festival at the Ag Hall on Highway 67 from 5 30 to 9 30 p m Saturday. Classes sponsor booths with new offerings and proceeds fund local school needs. Work Day at the Ag Building is Friday with room mothers invited to decorate. country store items are to be delivered Saturday 1 to 5 p m.
U.S. Weather Bureau observer T. J. Davis reports 0.36 inch rainfall for the period, bringing September moisture to 1.60 inches. The week’s temperatures ranged from 59 to 98 degrees with daily lows and highs listed for September 16 to 22.
Sen J P Word of Meridian was sworn in as Governor of Texas in Austin. The oath was given by District Judge Truman Roberts in the Senate chamber due to crowd size. Word, 40, served as President pro tem of the Senate and was accompanied by his wife Bobbye and three children.
Fred Echols of this city underwent surgery at Memorial Hospital in Cleburne Monday morning and is reported to be recovering satisfactorily Tuesday.
Glen Rose High School Future Farmers of America re elected Danny Thompson as chapter president for 1969 70 with Jerry Ratliff as vice president Ricky Rhodes secretary Bobby West treasurer Gary Boren reporter Terry Starnes sentinel Gary Dempsey student adviser and Larry Shackelford Student Council representative. A Lake Whitney District meeting named Terry Starnes sentinel and listed officers including Gary Brunton president Jack Dunaway vice president Duane Jones secretary Donald Shrunk treasurer Paul Baker reporter Carmen Bruner parliamentarian Tommy Isabell historian Randy Goodman second vice president Kim Lubke third vice president. District meeting held in Joshua.
The Glen Rose Tigers crushed Kennedale 73-0 after an opening 13-0 win over Crowley. Gary Dempsey led with 18 points on three TDs as the defense held Kennedale to 45 total yards and three first downs, with Roger Thompson, Mike Schuelke, and Flavis Fluitt scoring multiple times.
Speaker Gus Mutscher announced Rep. J. E. Ward of Glen Rose was appointed to the Texas Legislative Council. The council is a permanent, full time staff agency handling studies, bill drafting, statutory revision and staff for interim committees. Ward has served since 1961 and chairs the Enrolled and Engrossed Bills committee while serving on Agriculture Appropriations Claims and Mental Health and Mental Retardation committees.
