Mrs Georgia Poindexter remembered by Ellis County roots

The Waxahachie Daily Light recalls Mrs Georgia Poindexter a retired teacher who moved to Waxahachie from Ellis County five or six years ago. She taught 45 years never missed a day except once due to a sore throat and kept her community thriving with cooking canning crafts and church leadership. Her former pupils greet her with hugs during homecomings.

The winner will be crowned after a 8:00 ceremony in the high school auditorium following a 7:30 picnic supper in the cafeteria. Sunday features a basket lunch at noon and a meeting to elect 1958 officers. registration is $1 per family.

Dunn buried at Chalk Mountain Tuesday

Clinton R. Dunn 58 died Sunday night after a long illness. He lived in Glen Rose after returning from Ft. Worth where he ran a mattress factory and worked in the furniture business. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Glen Rose Church of Christ. Interment followed in Chalk Mountain cemetery. Pallbearers named. Survived by widow Bessie and two brothers Alford and Felix. Paluxy Bridge Nearing Open on U S 67

The Paluxy Bridge on U S 67 is nearing completion and should open by October 15. The old narrow structure from the late 1920s is being replaced as concrete pours finish this week and approaches to the bridge are readied.

Chamber of Commerce Meetup Awards Support for FFA Grass Contest

The Chamber of Commerce met at the Community Center on Tuesday. Rainbow Home Demonstration Club served fried chicken. They voted to give 40 to sponsor a grass judging contest for FFA teams later this year. The contest is financed by Bosque and Erath Counties and will be held in Glen Rose. A committee of Mac McConal and Mrs. D A Moss will coordinate with Home Demonstration Clubs to secure a Home Demonstration Agent for Somervell.

Meaders Family Reunion At Chapel Hill

Dr and Mrs W E Meaders Jr of Chapel Hill NC hosted a family get together with their parents Dr and Mrs W E Meaders. Bill Meaders returned from New York City where he attended the American Psychological Association and will be an assistant professor of Clinical Psychology at UNC Graduate School. Bob Meaders of Dallas, a Southwestern Medical School junior, joined the gathering, the first time all children were home together.
