An application for a five-county Resource Conservation and Development Project was signed by local sponsors in Stephenville. The plan aims to coordinate conservation on farms flood prevention rural income off farm jobs and recreational facilities across Upper Leon Bosque Palo Pinto Erath Comanche Somervell Eastland counties. Somervell County Adopts 1.15 Tax Rate For Next Year
Commissioners set the county tax rate at 1.15 per 100 valuation for the coming year, matching last year’s levy. They allocated funds for jury, general, improvements, salary, Social Security, debt interest, and road funds, and approved time warrants to finance an $18,000 dirt loader. The board also reviewed financing for a museum and library by the Somervell County Historical Society and announced a Friday Sock Hop at Oakdale Park Rink after the Tigers game with Meridian. Car Burns at Chalk Mountain
Glen Rose volunteers responded Monday morning to extinguish a fire in a 1955 Buick on Highway 67 Chalk Mountain. The car owned by Tommy Anderson of Glen Rose was reported to have ignited in the back seat from a defective muffler, with only the interior burned.

Whitakers Donate Land for Park Near Blue Hole
Mr and Mrs Winston Whitaker donated a triangular acre near the Blue Hole along the Paluxy River to Somervell County for a public park. A warranty deed was filed with County Attorney Sam Freas and presented to County Judge Temple Summers who said plans will develop the plot into a county park. The gift provides public access from the road for recreational use.

Cedar Hill Man Jailed In Mishap
Ray Smith of this city was rear ended by a pickup on Highway 67 near Bono road while returning to Glen Rose. The driver fled the scene, was later arrested in Erath County for driving while intoxicated and jailed in Cleburne on a hit and run charge. Damages were estimated at 150 dollars to Smith’s car and 75 dollars to the pickup.
