Glen Rose growth evident as enrollment peaks and crowds flood Labor Day

Glen Rose officials reported an all time high enrollment of 519 students while utility connections and post office boxes reached records. Labor Day weekend drew large crowds with full lodging and crowded eateries as local groups and clubs supported events. Tigers football hopes rise with an away game at Hico Friday night.

Indicted by panel for burglaries in county

A June term Grand Jury empaneled by Judge Penn J. Jackson returned eight indictments for burglary against Warren Underwood and three against Jerry Prescher. Underwood faces charges tied to two ranch-home burglaries and a third at Dr. R. H. Dreschel Sr. last month. Prescher faces three burglaries in August. Jury praised the County Sheriff's tax collection and the Commissioners Court remodeling of rest rooms and urged a jail repair committee.

Rest Rooms Remodel Finished at Courthouse Square

Workmen completed an extensive remodeling program on the public rest rooms at the courthouse square. The facilities now feature ceramic tile on floors and walls and new modern fixtures. The project cost about $1600.

Glen Rose Opens With Record School Enrollment

Glen Rose Schools began with a record 519 pupils, up 41 from last year. High school numbers total 155 with elementary at 364, the largest class is eighth grade at 58 and the smallest is the junior high at 28. Officials expect enrollment to reach 525 early in the second week. Superintendent J M McCroskey praised strong start and noted campus improvements including grounds grading, gravel parking areas, and backstops on softball diamonds to prepare for the new year.

Tigers Open Grid Season At Hico

Glen Rose Sabertooths travel to Hico Friday night to open the 1967 grid season against the Tigers. Glen Rose, 8-3 last year and District 13-A champions, aim to repeat with five starters missing. Ballots Mailed for Somervell Community Committee Election

ASCS office manager Iva E Aston said ballots for the annual Community Committee Election will be mailed Friday. Producers not receiving a ballot can pick one up at the Glen Rose Hotel building office. Community and county committeemen will meet Sept 27 to choose a county committeeman for a three year term and take office Oct 1.

Crowds Enjoy Glen Rose Labor Day Festivities

Large crowds gathered in Glen Rose from Friday to Monday for Labor Day events hosted by the Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce. Dutch Mann Preaches Here Saturday Night

Dutch Mann former pastor of Rock Creek Baptist Church preached at Assembly of God Church here Saturday night. A number from Rock Creek Church attended. The Mann family resides in Oregon while he pastored a Hood River church and now attends a Bible College in Marlin where the family lives.

B Team Opens Season At Tiger Stadium Saturday

The B team begins a seven game schedule against Valley Mills at Tiger Stadium Saturday morning. Kickoff is 9 30 a m with adult admission 50 cents and student 25 cents.
