Christmas lighting contest and caroling plan announced

IN THE SANDS notes that the FFA sponsors a second year Christmas lighting contest for local businesses and homes. The Dinos Senior Citizens will trim a tree on the court house square with a For the Birds theme and host a carol session. Santa will visit Glen Rose on Saturday Dec 9 at 10 a.m. for photo orders and will schedule appearances via 897-4445.

Tigers Lose In Bi District Two Stolen Vehicles Found In Somervell

Two stolen vehicles were recovered in Somervell County. A 1968 International diesel truck tractor stolen in Haltom City on April 22 was found behind Mrs. A. A. Houghtelling’s home and belonged to Dan Foley of Dallas. A 1971 GMC pickup stolen from Holley Chevrolet in Brownwood on April 27 was found at the Houghtelling residence. No charges were filed and vehicles were released to owners.

Glen Rose Tigers Fall to Blooming Grove in Bi-District Clash

Glen Rose ended their season 8-3 after a 35-12 loss to Blooming Grove in bi district action at Hillsboro. Blooming Grove rush led by Eddy Collins totaled 256 yards with Collins scoring three times, while Danny Beck connected on 16 of 172 passing yards for Glen Rose. The Lions advance to regional play against Mason as Glen Rose registers season receipts of 9509.41 plus 1484.50 for the district game and local net take of 4815.01.

Nephew of Local Lady Dies In Auto Accident

Garland Smith 21 of Corpus Christi a nephew of Mrs Grace Rives was buried in Arlington Monday after a fatal car crash near Lampasas Friday en route to Abilene. He was a UT Austin senior. Survivors include his parents two brothers and grandparents including Mrs Margaret Hambright of Granbury. Mrs Rives attended the burial in Arlington.

Dinos Sponsor Christmas Caroling On Courthouse Lawn

The Dinos of Somervell County will sponsor a county wide Christmas carol sing along on the courthouse lawn Wednesday December 13 at 6 30 p m to kick off their annual program Christmas for the Birds. The tree will be lit and decorated with popcorn and other goodies for birds. Everyone is invited to attend and join in the singing.

Somervell County Junior Livestock Show weigh-in set

Cecil Wood, president of the Somervell County Junior Livestock Poultry and Homemaking Association, announced a Saturday weigh-in for beef steers, barrow pigs and fat lambs to be shown in the next March livestock show. Weighing at Chaparral Ranch pens from 9 am to noon. youths must have animals present to be eligible and entry cards filed with Wood.

Dallas Man Fractures Leg In Motorcycle Crash

Weather report details first snow and month moisture totals

Weatherman Robert Mack reports the first snow of the winter fell Tuesday morning last week and temperatures dipped below freezing three mornings in the past seven days. The National Weather Service tally shows .18 inch of moisture, 2.70 inches for the month through Monday, and 29.34 inches for the year. Mack presents the weekly figures.
