Sales taxes have been a real source of revenue for the City of Glen Rose pouring $20 992 97 into the city treasury in the seven quarters tallied since the tax went into effect in the last quarter of 1969. The 1% tax amounted to $2 852 90 in the first quarter for which it was collected in 1969, and collections last year totalled $11 415 34. Since collections are always six months behind from the state to the city only the first two quarters of the tax have been received here totaling $6 624 73 for an increase of $1 210 47 over the same period last year. On the basis of collection thus far this year the tax will net the city in excess of $1 000.00 and all that has to be done to get it is pick up the check at the post office and deposit it in the bank.
Officials of the Glen Rose Young Farmer Chapter say preparations are complete for the Turkey Shoot at Ronnie Shackelford farm on Shotgun Road Saturday at 1 p.m. A large crowd is expected as shooters compete in .22 caliber pistol and rifle events with frozen turkeys as prizes. Coordinating committee includes Shackelford, Danny Butler and Bobby Steele.
Observer Robert Mack reports a dry spell in Somervell County with 19 days since measurable precipitation. Last moisture reading was Oct 27 as temperatures stay balmy and a killing frost is not yet expected. Total rainfall reaches 32.45 inches with October recording 9.57 inches.
Officers of the Glen Rose-Som ervell County Fire Department report cash gifts totaling 60.00 in the past week and an anonymous donor gave a 16 foot aluminum boat with trailer for rescue operations. The boat is in excellent condition and a motor will be acquired soon. Receipts include 25.00 from N B Tankersley and gifts from Hoot Baker and Mr. and Mrs. W M Reeves Ira Aston, bringing total gifts to 200.00.
A group of 47 students from grades one through seven rode a bus to Fort Worth for the Shrine Circus. They were chaperoned by Mrs. Jack Miller with assistance from Beverly Wallace, a local high school student.
Valley Mills Eagles clinched the District 16-A championship by defeating the Glen Rose Tigers 16-6 on their home field. Ricky Rhodes led Glen Rose with 91 passing yards and 21 rushing yards, while Wayne Green scored the Eagles’ final TD and contributed on defense as Valley Mills pulled away with a late 72 yard run by Roland Bryant and a key goal line stand.
The Cisco Junior College Singers, 31 students directed by Wyley M. Peebles, will present a concert Sunday evening at First Baptist Church. Accompanist Martha Brewer of Eastland. Randy Chambers and Donna Flanary of Glen Rose are group members. The program includes secular and religious works, with religious pieces like Silent Night and Ave Maria. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
Wm L Lawson heads the Community Services Division of the State Farmers Home Administration at Temple and will speak on farmer cooperatives. He and FHA representative Bob Wells will attend the Young Farmer Chapter meet Tuesday night, tour Dinosaur Valley State Park, visit the local high school, and inspect area member farms.
A group of 56 Glen Rose Pee Wee players traveled to Dallas by bus to attend the SMU Arkansas football game in the Cotton Bowl. Sponsors Arthur Vineyard Marcus Gohle and Paul Schuelke accompanied the team on the trip.

Somervell County Home Demonstration Council hosts a flea market Saturday in the bandstand on the courthouse square from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event invites public attendance.
The Glen Rose High School girls basketball team opened their season with a 63 to 33 victory at Alvarado on Tuesday night. The B team added a 31 to 27 win.
The Tiger Band of about 35 musicians will travel to Brady Saturday to compete in the University Interscholastic League marching contest. The twirlers also enter UIL events. director Harold Parnell notes bands are judged by standards and placed in divisions rather than direct competition.
Bobby West editor of the Tig erette high school annual says the deadline to order this year’s edition is Wednesday November 24. Interested buyers should contact Donna Brooks before the deadline.
