Chamber of Commerce to Resume Luncheons in Glen Rose

The Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce board approved monthly noon luncheons for members. The November 26 gathering at First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall features a Thanksgiving dinner, a brief business meeting, and a talk by John Rickerson of Lederle Laboratories on Values in Health. Tickets are 1.25 dollars from directors or local shops.

Man Fined For Possession Of Deer Out Of Season

A Stephenville man was arrested and fined 55 dollars in county court for possession of a wild buck deer out of season. He claimed he hit the animal on Long Pettitt Road near Flat Top Ranch and was taking it to authorities when stopped by a Game Warden. Officials noted the car-deer scenario could be true but state law requires the deer to be moved off the roadway and reported to authorities.

The Community School Organization schedules its regular monthly gathering for Monday November 18 at 7 30 PM. The local FFA Chapter members will lead the program and an informative discussion on modern math will accompany the agenda, inviting all parents of students.

Fines Totaled 594.50 in County and Justice Court

Justice of the Peace C. M. Tidwell reports fines and costs at 359.50 for September and October with 174.00 in September and 185.50 in October. County Court fines reached 235.00 for two offenses including 180.00 for whisky and beer resale and 55.00 for an out of season deer possession. Dr and Mrs W E Meaders visited Austin for the Texas Baylor game and weekend with relatives.

Commissioners Court Approves $800 for Center Remodel

In regular session the Commissioners Court voted to spend 800.00 for repairs and remodeling of the Community Center. Estimated interior remodeling costs total 1500. County home demonstration clubs oversee the project and plan to raise the remaining funds.

Local Lady's Grandson Buried in Lubbock

David Russell Spencer 19, grandson of Mrs. Clara Spencer of Glen Rose and son of Mrs. Tommy Wynne of Lubbock, was buried in Lubbock Wednesday. He died from injuries at a San Diego naval hospital after a year in the Navy. Details were not available. Survivors include his mother two sisters and his grandmother. Burial followed in Squaw Creek Cemetery. relatives from Charley Spencer Earl Million Mrs. Mary Moss attended.

Somervell Voters Reject Poll Tax Amendment

Somervell County voters rejected the proposed constitutional poll tax abolition and the Jefferson County pension proposal. Support for increasing welfare payment ceilings passed 142 to 50, and increased veterans land payment capital won 105 to 70. A portrait show is scheduled at Palace Theatre benefiting medallion costs.

Carnival Nets Over 650 For CSO And Local School

The annual Community School Organization fall carnival raised 661.73 for CSO and local school. Pre sale and ticket sales produced 603.00 with queen contest adding 249.37. gross receipts reached 890.32 and expenses 228.59, leaving 661.73 for classes and CSO.

Tigers Fall to Clifton and Close Season in Glen Rose

The Glen Rose High School Tigers were shut out 30 0 by Clifton last Friday night. They conclude the 1963 season with a trip to Alvarado and face a tough finish as observers expect a strong effort. Visitors at the Tillman home included Mrs Tillman and family from Clarksville Alabama and Mangum Oklahoma.

Methodist Harvest Festival Dinner and Auction

The First Methodist Church of Glen Rose hosts a harvest festival in the church Fellowship Hall on Saturday November 23. A sumptuous barbecue dinner starts at 11 30 a m followed by an old fashioned auction at 1 p m. Tickets cost 1.00 for adults and 50 cents for children with sale items including livestock handcrafts pictures pastries canned goods and other donated items. Auctioneer Gregg Loftis of Waxahachie leads the sale and Rev Bruce Baker invites all to attend.
