Gas workers have repaired mains and drilled wells to support winter service. Lone Star Gas System urges customers to prepare by ensuring proper appliances and heat. Do not delay heating needs. heat evenly with ventilation and avoid sleeping in closed rooms with gas heaters.
Regular meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held Monday evening at 8 o'clock in the district courtroom at the courthouse. All members are urged to be present. Reporter.
Miss Anne Lane reports 165 checks totaling 7247.92 for 113 farmers in the soil conservation program. About 350 Somervell county farmers will receive payments averaging 65 dollars as completed forms arrive. Election day approaches with Roosevelt and Willkie seen as likely rivals in a close national race. Pleas for voter turnout across parties.
Dr. J O Carr completes an office in the Wemp Hotel Glen Rose with hours 9 12 am and 1 5 pm. He resides at the Glen Rose Hotel and arrived from Hugo Oklahoma after two years practice. He interned at Northeast Hospital Kansas City Missouri. Glen Rose welcomes his practice.
Miss Irene Martin and Jack Buzan of Glen Rose wed Monday night at 8:30 in Justice of the Peace G W Dye’s home. The couple, attended only by themselves, plan to remain in Glen Rose where Buzan works at Harry's Place. Both are Somervell County natives and attended the local high school.
The War Department has closed the Citizens' Military Training Camps for an indefinit e period. The move follows Selective Service planning to draft all men aged 21 to 35, requiring officers as instructors in army camps who previously staffed CMTC. Mr and Mrs H C Polley of Colorado City visited relatives here.
Number 158 was the first number drawn to determine call order for the Selective Service. Samuel Odell Graham held 158 in Somervell county. Somervell County youths ages 10 to 18 may enter a Ft Worth livestock market calf contest run from November 7 to December 7. A prize heifer calf will go to the winner who writes the best 100 word theme on livestock marketing. Write Ted Gouldy at Ft Worth livestock exchange building for rules.
The Glen Rose Tigers travel to Iredell for the final district contest after a upset loss to Granbury. A win would likely clinch a district title, despite Cranfils Gap’s 6 6 tie. Kickoff is 2 30 p m with local fans expected to support the Tigers in pursuit of the championship.
Advertisement notes the opening of Viola's Beauty Shop in Glen Rose with Miss Viola Fussell as manager. The salon is located at the rear of Hooker and Cook Barber Shop and opens Saturday November 2. Fussell is an experienced operator and invites local ladies to visit.

Dr. Clarence Dykstra said the process shows an orderly peacetime army, with Somervell County's allotment capped at two men and 30,000 to be drafted nationwide in the first call.
At three o'clock next Sunday afternoon the Glen Rose and Granbury Boy Scouts will hold Court of Honor at the Methodist Church. Badges will be awarded to Scouts who completed tender foot and second class requirements. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend.
