A local group of young men from the Glen Rose Somervell County Volunteer Fire Department are lauded for long hours aiding neighbors. They man fire trucks ambulance and rescue services. five ambulance calls. one patient to Fort Worth hospital. two women to local hospital. a high school baseball player with a broken leg. a fatal wreck on Highway 67 pinned driver’s body. the crew worked from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. without rest.

School land bond offer rejected after meeting
A Monday night audience discussed an April 2 bond election seeking 1.5 million for a new high school. Board President Ronnie Shackelford said the district would return the Rumph 40 acre gift due to patron objections and voters will ballot site preferences on bond day. Suggested sites included land across from the stadium and Gibbs property on East Highway 67.

Local Youth Fair Crowned With Broad Show Wins
The 21st Annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Home Making Show drew good crowds and showcased top entries across divisions. Grand champions included Swine Scott Marsh and Karen Cromeans. Sheep Karen Cromeans and Dee Montgomery. Beef cattle Steve Bonin and Dee Jackson. Horses Brent Munden and Jennifer Bridges. Dairy Goats Angela Cook and Kathy Johnson. Poultry Zeke Powell and Cindy Dehtan. Rabbits Scott Barclay and Angela Cook. Showmanship honors went to Mike McCarty, Lisa Dehtan, Dee Montgomery, and Paul Morrow. The Herdsman Trophy went to Lee Branham, presented by W. D. Youngblood. An open Brahman bull shown by Jack Bridges Jr. won the open bull show. Auction sales totaled 12,457.56 with sales including Scott Marsh, Karen Cremeans, Mike McCarty, and others.

Wrecker Operator Dies In Highway 67 Crash
Norman Clay Adams 54 of Garland was killed when the GMC wrecker he drove overturned after crossing a median on Highway 67 at the Highway 144 intersection near town. One lane remained closed for hours. Adams’ funeral services were held in Hamilton. Survivors include his wife Mary, son Norman, daughter Allison, and several siblings.
