Art Colony Opens to Crowds at Erath County Event
Near capacity crowds attended the second annual opening of the Art Colony at Oakdale Park with over 100 artists showcased. Visitors from Georgia Colorado and Nebraska bought paintings totaling about 500 dollars. Awards went to Summers Dow Jones Park and Peggy Mary with Merit honors for several others. Ray Froman Bud Biggs and Mrs Wilson led workshops and exhibits run through March in the skating rink with free gallery access.

Somervell County Students Celebrate 13th Annual Show
Friday marks a school holiday for Somervell County youth to attend the 13th Annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Homemaking Show at the Livestock Show Barns and Ag Building on Highway 67. A two day event features a Championship Junior Rodeo at the rodeo arena Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Glen Rose Soldier James Moss Wounded in Vietnam Evacuated
James Moss son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Moss, Glen Rose, was wounded in artillery action near Da Nang. He was evacuated from Vietnam to Japan by plane and was to be moved by air and land to Fort Hood, Texas, with no word on his condition at press time.

Junior Livestock Show Opens With Auction Planned
The 13th Annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Homemaking Show starts Friday at 9 a.m. with entries due by the hour in livestock and 10 a.m. in homemaking. An auction of beef steers, fat barrows and lambs with 2c over market prices will be Saturday at the show barns.

Four Injured in Rash of County Auto Accidents
Lorena Mulder 18 and her sister escaped injury when their 1958 Chevrolet struck a highway sign and cut a power pole near Reynolds Funeral Home. Other crashes occurred on US 67 and State Highway 144 with injuries reported to Beverly Hopper and several motorists. one vehicle overturned near Dinosaur State Park. Marshal Rountree and Sheriff Strawn investigated the weekend incidents.

W E Porter Rites Held At First Baptist Church
Final rites for William E. Porter 81 were conducted at the First Baptist Church with Dr J W Ousley of Waco and Rev Jack Mills officiating. Porter a native of Somerville County born February 8 1888 farmed then served as County and District Clerk and later postmaster until 1958. He married Minnie Shirley in 1912 and is survived by his wife two daughters two sisters two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers were named with honorary pallbearers listed.
