School principals Guenther Luckenbach and Harry Lister announced this week that 57 students were listed on the honor rolls for the fourth six weeks. There are 34 in elementary, 9 in junior high, and 14 in high school with named students listed by class and teacher.
The Glen Rose Independent School District board met in a called session on February 24 to authorize home study for an eighth grade student. It also voted unanimously not to extend the contracts of Head Coach Paul B. Schuelke and Assistant Coach Kelly J. Becker beyond the 1977-78 year. Contracts for Ann Dove Peggy Kyle Larry Pillars and Weldon B Hart were extended through 1978-79. Pillars received a 1000 bonus for assisting as coach and Hart 1400 per year. Julia Moseley’s contract extended through 1978-79 if funds allow for the Co op program.
Fred Bell of San Antonio, chairman of the First National Bank board, was killed in a Nassau Bahamas plane crash Saturday morning. His wife and her brother and wife, Mr and Mrs Harry Leak of Dallas, also died. Bell piloted the aircraft owned by him. Details and funeral plans were unavailable as press time. J O Crane, bank president, said business would continue.
Weather observer Robert Mack reports a week of rain and chilly mornings in the GJrn Rose area. Thursday rainfall reached 1.76 inches, yearly moisture through Monday at 5.10 inches, with temperatures from 25 to 75 degrees and four days well below freezing. Mr and Mrs Robert Gaskill visited their granddaughter and husband, Mr and Mrs Richard Nunn, in Cleburne Sunday.
Voters face a heavy ballot with 19 candidates for four city seats and two Glen Rose ISD board posts. For mayor the slate includes Lowell Allen Underwood Mickey Garrett and H M Sego. Council two year seats list Parker Osborn Witt Tanley and Rodman with one year term nominees Aiey and McCaun. Nine seek two school board places Shackelford Moss Bonin Harwood Hawthorne Nail Drake Gartrell and Rumph Jr. Incumbents Shackelford and Rumph. Keene visitors Mrs Maloney and Mrs Miles attended Tuesday.
Travis Branham president of the Somervell County Livestock and Homemaking Association asks members to join 4-H Club members at the show grounds Saturday at 8:00 am for a work day session to prepare for the annual Junior Livestock Show scheduled for Friday March 18. Members return at 7:30 pm Tuesday to finish the grounds area.
Walnut Springs Lions Club reports the 11th Rattlesnake Hunt drew over 2,500 registrations across the three day event. Participants captured 558 rattlesnakes weighing 573 pounds. the longest measured 67 and a half inches, the shortest 13 inches. Six copperheads were brought in but not counted in the totals.
Texas Baptists unite in the Good News Texas revival campaign with First Baptist Glen Rose Rock Creek Baptist and other Palaxy Association churches. Evangelists Joe Watts C G Carter and Tommy Powers lead nightly services March 13 to 20 with different start times to suit workers. Friday March 18 services begin 6 30 p m for kids livestock show and 7 30 p m other nights.
High School Principal Harry Lister announced an appreciation party for Glen Rose High students tonight from 7 to 10 in the new elementary gym. Refreshments and music will be provided for dancing and all local students are urged to attend.
