Rainbow News Church Social and Nearby Visit Notes

Regular church appointment attended by Brother Sanders with lunch hosted by Mr and Mrs Bill Barnes. Numerous visiting families join services including Mr and Mrs Earl Brock from near Pecos and Mrs A J Odell of Fort Worth with Lera Mae Robertson from Nemo. The Rainbow H D Club served the Chamber of Commerce lunch last Tuesday.

Buck Creek HDC Hosts February Meeting

The Buck Creek Home Demonstration Club met February 24 at Mrs. Faye Page’s home with 18 members present. Mrs. Maxine Bagby presented the program on Civil Defense and Disaster Relief and demonstrated a Buddy burner. The next meeting is planned for March 9 at Mrs. Martin’s home.

Glen Rose closes its basketball season with a faculty versus students charity game at Leach Gymnasium tonight at 7 30. Proceeds go to FFA and FHA as the boys finish 11 13 and district runners up 6 3 while the girls end 14 10 and claim the Alvarado tournament title. The student lineup features Conan Clary Ellis Willingham Crawford Cain. the women include Valerie Pullin Flanary Holmes Shipp Leonard Clary Patton Willingham Pound. Officials are Shipp and Pullin. 1955 Tiger football films will also be shown. Admission 25 and 50 cents.

Senior Class To Have Local Government Day

The Texas History senior class plans a Local Government Day during Public School Week. A committee including David Garrs Weldon Hart Glenda Leonard Barbara Hewlett and Gary Mullens will meet with the Mayor Dr Marks and Judge Hooker to discuss office holding by elected seniors.

Funeral for J. W. McCaghren in Sudan Church

J W McCaghren former Glen Rose resident dies after long illness. Funeral services held Monday February 20 at the Church of Christ in Sudan with singing by nephews and other relatives. Born August 6 1880 in Hill county he married Edna Vista McCoy in 1904 at Glen Rose. Survivors include his wife four children and two brothers C C McCaghren Petersburg and H H McCaghren.

Somervell County Receives Drought Relief Eligibility

In a Wednesday call, Congressman Jim Wright informed that Somervell County is now listed as drought relief eligible. Farmers and stockmen may apply for aid using the same process as last year, with relief effective immediately.

Reading List for School Grades Displayed in Class Stack

A display shows 134 textbooks used from first through twelfth grade. Miss Martha Hawkins, a senior student and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hawkins, anchors the stack. The youngest pupil presented is Sherrill Hughitt, age 6, a first grader beginning the grade-spanning set.

Soil Water Conservation Loans Surpass Twenty Million

More than 19.8 million dollars has been borrowed by farmers for soil and water conservation since the loan program began a little over a year ago. Texas state director Walter T. McKay notes irrigation dominates use, with about 79 percent of funds directed to pumps piping wells and ditch work aiding 282 thousand acres. By year end 1955 Texas allocated 2.28 million, 85 percent to irrigation across 34,603 acres, while remaining funds financed soil and water measures for households and livestock.

Ren of Dallas and Sister Interred at Littlefield Park

Ren of Dallas and his sister Mrs. Willie Shipman of Dallas died recently. Interment was held at Littlefield Memorial Park with funeral rites concluding the family service.

M E Stewart obituary notes long county residence

M E Stewart, 79, died Sunday in a local hospital after a long illness. Born March 31, 1876 in Emory, Texas, he lived in the county since 1925 and resided in Nemo. He was a Church of Christ member. C A Buchanan conducted funeral services Monday at Glen Rose Funeral Home chapel. Survivors include two sons Raymond and Henry, four daughters Mrs John Cheek, Mrs E A Williams, Mrs Edgar Lewis, and Mrs Harve Pinson. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne.

Mrs Ola Paris Dies in Glen Rose at 60

Mrs Ola Paris 60 died February 23 after a long illness and lived near Glen Rose for 18 years. A former Glen Rose Reporter correspondent, she focused on church work. Funeral held February 25 at United Pentecostal Church Glen Rose with burial at Walnut Springs Cemetery beside her husband. Survivors include two sons, two sisters, five brothers, nine grandchildren, and other relatives. Brister Funeral Home directed services.

Grey Rose ISD to Elect Three Trustees on April 7 1956

Grey Rose Independent School District trustees meet in regular session approving the 1955-56 textbook report and pupil transportation record. They call for an April 7 1956 election to elect three trustees and name Lee Currie election judge with two clerks, plus replacements if needed. An auditorium event is planned for March 3 and Ellis is chosen as classroom teacher for the remainder of the 55-56 year.
