Civic Leader Ona Bridges Buried After Long Illness

Mrs. Ona Bridges 76 died at the local hospital on June 12 after a long illness. She moved to Glen Rose in 1928 with her husband C A Bridges, who led the First National Bank there. A civic leader, she helped establish the Community Center and served as Red Cross chairman in World War II. Services Friday at 10 a m at the First Methodist Church with burial in Cumby. Survivors include a daughter, two sons, five grandchildren, and numerous relatives. Bristol Funeral Home in charge.

Senior Trip to Kerrville Lazy H Dude Ranch

Twenty eight Glen Rose seniors left after commencement for a 2 12 day trip to the Lazy H Dude Ranch in Kerrville Texas with five room mothers and sponsors. They traveled by bus, stayed three days, and enjoyed horseback riding and swimming while socializing with other senior classes. The excursion marked the close of twelve years together.

Nursery School in Homemaking Department

This summer the Homemaking girls under Mrs Engleman will run a nursery in the department for four year olds and younger. Children may bring two toys to share and two towels for rest periods. The program runs 9 00 to 11 00 a m from June 17 to June 28.

District Judge Penn Jackson to Take Insurance Post

Penn J. Jackson, long time District Judge since 1944 and former District Attorney, will become chairman of the new State Board of Insurance on July 1. Appointed by Governor Price Daniel, he will head a three member board replacing the Insurance Commissioners. A new District Judge will be named by Daniel, with John James and Jack Altaras discussed as potential appointees. The 18th Judicial District covers Johnson and Somervell Counties.

The Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce plans a local beauty contest on Friday night July 12 at the football stadium. Miss Glen Rose will advance to the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo in Cleburne. Prizes include 100 dollars for first, 25 for second, 15 for third. entrants supply costumes. Merchants encouraged to sponsor entrants. judging by regional business leaders.

Mrs Sam McCoy Passes After Long Illness in Tulsa

Mrs Sam McCoy longtime Somervell County resident died in Tulsa Oklahoma Tuesday June 4 after a long illness. Born in Alabama December 21 1879 she moved to Texas early. Funeral services were held Wednesday June 5 at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel with M L Daniels officiating. Survivors include four sons Lawrence Glen Rose Ray Eldon and Wayne and four daughters Danny Franklin Lois Swaim Avis Trotter and Quata Moss. Burial in Nancy Smith cemetery. Glen Rose Funeral Home in charge.
