Somervell County Runoff Election Scheduled This Saturday

Voters in Somervell County join statewide runoff on Saturday casting ballots in four statewide races and two local contests. Precincts 1 and 3 choose county commissioners while Precinct 4 selects a precinct chairman. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m with a polling-place change for Precinct 3 at Fellowship Hall First United Methodist Church.

Red Moss Buried Here On Friday

Funeral rites for M. E. Red Moss 83 were held Friday at 2 30 p m in Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Dewayne Finley. He died in the local hospital after a long illness. Born November 1 1888 in the county he was the son of Robert A Moss and Dora Hamberlin Moss. He married Elizabeth Woodard on July 4 1934. Survivors include his wife two brothers D A Hossie Moss and Rusty Moss four sisters Verne Thomas Sue Chaney Ben Moss and Helen Lewis and several nieces and nephews. Burial followed in Glen Rose Cemetery with pallbearers Linley Gilly Ed Rives Benny Newman Robert Mack Coll Martin and G C Gibbs Jr.

Sewing Sessions for Adults Announced by Local Teacher

Mrs. Bobbie Morris, home making teacher at the high school, announces an adult sewing class in her department on June 6 7 and 13 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. The program offers beginner and refresher lessons with free babysitting. Topics include pattern and fabric selection June 6, bound buttonholes and pattern alterations June 7, machine use June 13, and sewing skills and problems June 14 15.

Rainbow Baptists Plan Celebration

Rainbow Baptist Church invites former members and friends to join the 75th anniversary celebration on Sunday June 11. After the 11 a.m. service a picnic lunch and special music will follow. Officials seek old photographs of church activities for display during the event.

Two Boys Drown in Brazos River Near Here

Lonnie Ray Vasquez six and John Paul Garza eight died in a Brazos River outing four miles east of here. The tragedy occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday as five children played on the bank. two were recovered after drowning. Rescue squads from Hood and Johnson Counties aided the search, with Vasquez found entangled on a fishing line and Garza recovered downstream. Justice of the Peace ruled accidental drownings. funerals held Tuesday in Cleburne.

Somervell County Named Redevelopment Area in Texas

Somervell County is designated a redevelopment area under Public Works and Development Act of 1965 effective May 18, joining Hamilton Burleson and Washington. The designation makes counties eligible for EDA loans and grants with easier terms and lower interest rates for local projects.

Fort Worth Man Dies in Shooting Mishap

Joseph H. Foster Sr. 72 of Fort Worth died from a head gunshot on Chap paral Ranch west of town Saturday. Foster was found by his nephew W A Schmid who owns the ranch. Officials ruled the death accidental, citing a possible slip at White Bluff Branch and a discharged weapon as he fell. Survivors include son Joseph Holt Foster Jr and two sisters. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. John Elliott officiating.

4 H Leaders Attend Forum At Baylor University

Mr and Mrs Jack Miller and County Agents Mrs David Brown and Doyle Cooper attended a 4 H Leader Forum in Waco at Baylor University Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. The event was one of three forums in the state and the county is fortunate to have two leaders present. Sponsors included First National Bank and the HD Clubs.

Girl Softball Players Meet Friday At Diamond

All girls who were in third or fourth grade last year and want to play softball this summer are asked to meet at the baseball diamond at 9 30 a m Friday. Community girls not signed up at school should call Mrs Bill Mullen and attend this organizational meeting.

Laurie Moseley, president of the E T Adams Chapter Poetry Society of Texas, announces a reorganizational meeting Friday at 8 p m in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church. Indicted former school secretary in theft case

Mrs. Thomas E. Brooks of this city, a former Glen Rose Independent School District secretary, was indicted by the 18th District Court grand jury on a misdemeanor charge of theft under 50 dollars. The fraud concerns a 20 dollar cash shortage. restitution was made after an audit as the school board investigated the loss. Trial in County Court will be scheduled.

Man and Wife Golf Tournament Set at Local Course

Officials at Dinosaur Golf Links announced a man and wife tournament at 4 p.m. Sunday. Couples are invited to sign up by calling the course.

Pre-school Classes Start Monday at Local School

Pre school-age children may register for a six week summer session beginning Monday at 10 a.m. Classes directed by Mrs. Wallace Dove and Mrs. Wendell McPherson run Tuesday through Friday 9 to 11 a.m. The school library will also be open Tuesday and Friday mornings for local citizens.

Rain Fills May Totals and Lifts Crop Prospects

A wet Monday drenched the area with 1.96 inches at Robert Mack’s home and over three inches in Post Oak while Buck Creek reports vary. May rainfall brings monthly total to 5.28 inches and year-to-date to 11.58 inches. Mack’s figures show daily rainfall from May 23 to May 29 hovering around .90 inches each day with a final 1.96 inches on May 29.
