Glen Rose Ex students announce Homecoming events start Friday September 25 with reunions and activities. The climax is the Glen Rose vs Grandview football game at Tiger Stadium Saturday night September 26. A golden anniversary for graduates of 1915 and earlier will be celebrated.

Baptist Layman's Retreat Planned at Camp Arrowhead

Plans for a Palaxy Baptist Association Layman’s Retreat to be held July 31 and August 1 at Camp Arrowhead on the Brazos near Glen Rose. Noted laymen ministers and musicians will deliver inspirational messages with worship services three times in 28 hours. City Purchases Land for the Dump Ground

Glen Rose city officials announce the purchase of 13 acres adjoining the city dump ground from Mrs J D Armstrong for 100 dollars per acre. The land is currently leased to Robert Gaskill and will be transferred to the city when the lease ends next month.

Roger Armstrong Wins Santa Fe Scholarship at State FFA

Roger Armstrong a local FFA Chapter member received a $500 scholarship from the Santa Fe Railroad at the state FFA convention in San Antonio. He also earned a free train trip with $60 spending money to the National FFA convention in Kansas City this October. The local talent team of Witt Gartrell Stephens and Stewart did not place as Baird won state competition. Attendees from Glen Rose included Mr and Mrs Stewart and daughter W. B. Revival at New Prospect Church

The Rev. Eldon Pritchard of the New Prospect Baptist Church will preach at a revival at the church from July 26 through August 2. Arval Martin of College Heights Baptist Church in Cleburne will lead the singing. Services are set for 8 o'clock each evening, and all are welcome to attend.

Mrs Elliott Celebrates 91st Birthday in Glen Rose

Mrs M C Elliott marked her 91st birthday at home Tuesday with friends calling to share three birthday cakes and homemade ice cream. A Glen Rose resident since 1938, she remains engaged in politics and attends the Church of Christ when weather allows. Born July 21, 1873, she recalled moving from Rusk to Wise County in 1888 by ox wagon, with four children in later life and a wheelchair she still helps neighbors by baking.

Former sheriff Bone convicted of embezzlement in Meridian

A seven women and five men jury in 52nd District Court in Meridian found former Somervell County sheriff and tax assessor collector Paul Bone guilty on seven counts of misapplication of public funds totaling 21 544.72. He received a 10 year sentence in the state penitentiary.

Local youths escape drowning after Brazos River outing

Richard McCarty and Max Smith narrowly avoided being swept downstream while wading in the Brazos River near a low water bridge. Friends summoned help and a human chain formed with poles to pull them to the bank as fire crews arrived. The incident occurred amid treacherous currents released from Possum Kingdom Dam.

Baptist Youth Rally at Nemo Baptist Church

New Prospect Baptist Church of Nemo hosts the Palux Baptist Youth Rally Saturday night July 25 at 7 30. The program is an auction style event presented by youths from Hood and Somervell counties focusing on the value of a life with a dramatization of The Touch of the Masters Hand and featuring vocal and instrumental music. Midway Saddle Club Visits Oakdale Park

Sixty members of the Midway Saddle Club spent the weekend at Oakdale Park. They rode to Low Water Bridge on Saturday and toured Glen Rose on Sunday before heading home. Club head Jack Bryant of Route 4 Cleburne said the weekend was enjoyable and they expect to return soon. The club lists 150 members in the Cleburne area.

Dog adopts litter of four kittens in family

A two year old Chihuahua belonging to Patricia Ann and Mary Kay Thompson has taken over kitten care from the family cat. The dog nurses and guards the four kittens, growing hostile to anyone but the girls who raised them. This is the second litter the dog has adopted.

Eighteen students from Glen Rose High School plus three from Hico High School and one from Stripling Junior High in Fort Worth received driver education certificates this summer. Pony League Team Set To Meet Granbury Tonight In Glen Rose

Glen Rose Pony League champions with a 9-3 regular season record host Granbury in a Thursday night practice game at 8 o clock. Admission 10 and 25 cents. Next week they travel to Stephenville for a six team double round robin tournament. The team defeated the league all star squad 5-2 on Monday and received the league trophy in pre game ceremonies. They will play district action at Meridian opening August 5 against Clifton. Sponsor Glen Rose Volunteer Fire Department. coaches Kenneth Gibson Leroy Gibson and Paul Schuelke.
