Eddie Pollock Wins FFA Soil and Water Award

Eddie Pollock 19 of Glen Rose will receive the Future Farmers of America Foundation Soil and Water Award at the State FFA Convention in Houston July 15. He bred beef cattle and sheep, drilled water wells since age 14, built dams for water storage, and cleared land for pasture. Vocational agriculture teacher William B. Cowan Jr. led Glen Rose High School program.

Future Farmers To Attend State FFA Convention

Glen Rose Future Farmers of America members will attend the State FFA Convention in Houston July 14 16 under chapter president O Z Lemens. Six members will travel with Bill Miller of Sam Houston State Teachers College and four thousand rural youths are expected at the three day event.

Strawn Aids Granbury Gas Fire Rescue Effort

Sheriff Strawn helped evacuate residents in Granbury near a Gulf bulk station where a gasoline tank caught fire during filling. Two explosions followed as firefighting units from Granbury Benbrook Fort Worth Weatherford and Stephenville responded and confined the blaze to Gulf property.

Charles W Bridges of Glen Rose has been elected to membership in the American Angus Association at St Joseph Missouri announced by secretary Glen Bratcher.

Burglars Target Glen Rose Lumber Co

Local firm Glen Rose Lumber Co reports a burglary last week with about 1200 dollars in merchandise and office equipment stolen. Entry was made through a hole in the concrete tile wall and exit through side doors. Sheriff Speck Strawn said fingerprints taken by his office may lead to arrests. Stolen items include Black & Decker power saw two drills a Skil drill a Stanley drill Shop Mate drill a Black & Decker sander plus cash from the till and a Victor calculator clock radio and transistor radio. Office ransacked with desks and filing cabinets left scattered.

Local officers set roadblock on Highway 67

Sheriff Speck Strawn City Marshal Danny Smith Bosque County Sheriff Tiny Carr and Game Warden Bob Rudy joined forces Tuesday after lunch to set a roadblock on U S Highway 67 west of town in an attempt to capture two armed robbers wanted by Stephenville authorities. The gunmen robbed a Stephenville man of 24 dollars about noon Tuesday five miles east on the same highway. Roadblocks failed to stop them.

Girls Softball Team Being Organized in Area

Girls ages nine to twelve are invited to report to the baseball park Friday at 6:00 for softball workouts. Two teams will be formed or more if enough players show up. Mr and Mrs Robert L Stinnett of Lubbock visited Glen Rose over the weekend. they are former area residents who moved in 1915.

Sarah Hart Dies In Wreck Near Tyler

Mrs Randy Hart 31 of Joshua was killed when her car was hit broadside at a highway intersection near Tyler. Her son Randy Jr 8 serious head injuries and hospitalized. Another son Sandy Wayne 212 escaped injury. She was en route to Van to visit parents. Funeral services held at Hillard's Van and First Methodist Church here with burial in White Church Cemetery.

Goldsmiths Escape Injury After Burleson Wreck

Mr and Mrs John Goldsmith and their son were in a Burleson wreck on Tuesday while traveling from Glen Rose to Grand Prairie. A second car pulled in front near an intersection causing the collision. Mrs Goldsmith was hospitalized for possible rib fractures. Mr Goldsmith and their son were uninjured. The 1965 Chevrolet was badly damaged.

Round-Up Days Lauded and Follies Likely to Return

Chamber of Commerce president Speck Strawn and committees praised the Round-Up Days celebration held Friday and Saturday, with an estimated 4,000 in attendance. The event featured a busy schedule, two street dances, a dunking fundraiser, contests, parades, and a Junior Championship Rodeo, with crowd-pleasing acts and many winners named in floats, cars, and riding clubs.

Paluxy Area Watershed Group Forms Upstream Flood Prevention Effort

Landowners from Erath Hood and Somervell counties gathered at Bluffdale to form the Paluxy watershed association. They planned to seek planning assistance for the 249000 acre watershed and submitted a request to the State Soil Conservation Board for project sponsorship. Jack English was elected chairman and Russell Laughlin secretary. Directors named represent Erath Hood and Somervell counties.

Former resident dies from injuries after car accident

Word came this week that Mrs. George Yeager 75 of Boerne the former Dora Key Wimburne of Glen Rose died from injuries suffered in a recent car crash Yeager spent years in Somervell County where her father the late Rev Finch Wimburne pastored local churches She and her daughter visited Glen Rose last summer.
