Jack McCarty urges patriotic unity on July 4 1776 Declaration standards to live by. Texas DPS predicts 42 fatalities over Bicentennial weekend and motorists urged to rest at stops drive carefully and avoid alcohol. Fireworks pose hazards especially for children. handle with care. Also invites readers to submit family reunion notices for publication.
Garland Osborn announces the Somervell County Bicentennial program with the third night of the pageant Somervell U. S. A. and a Family Night for children 12 and under. Events include wagon rides, fiddlers, a pet show, armadillo race prizes, a courthouse square promenade, a Bicentennial street dance, fireworks, a midnight swim, church services, and Dinosaur Downs horse and mule races.
A 48 cubic foot block containing Acrocanthosaurus footprints, discovered May 14 last year at the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station site, was donated to Dinosaur Valley State Park for permanent display. A second set goes to Somervell County Museum, and a single track will stay at the plant awaiting completion.
Charles Gibbs announces that Mrs. Jimmy Whitefield and Mrs. Glen Galloway will teach the two sections of the second grade for the coming year in this city. They replace retirees Mrs. J. E. Ramsay and Mrs. Gertrude Waggoner.
Monday, July 5, will be a full holiday in Glen Rose with all city, county, state and federal offices closed. Many local firms will be closed or on Sunday schedules while some groceries and service stations stay open. The Reporter will publish for the mailing deadline Wednesday. Mrs. Bill Butler of Glen Rose is improving in Fort Worth’s All Saints Hospital after weeks as a patient.
Gerald Wood and Charles Jordan urge a 7 am dutch treat breakfast at the Feedlot Restaurant to launch a membership drive. Members split into two teams, with a dinner for winners that evening. The group targets 100 new members and dues are 40 dollars for firms and 20 for associates.
Judge Byron Crosier announced a pre trial hearing for Carroll Hulsey in 18th District Court Glen Rose on Sept 20 He faces murder charges in the December 27 1974 shooting death of Lewis Howard near Rock Creek Baptist Church His wife at the time is also charged in the murder.
