Glen Rose Somervell Chamber officials announced four new directors this week. Chamber President Carroll Gann said plans are complete for the annual banquet to be held Thursday evening Feb 13 at the Glen Lake Methodist Camp dining hall.
Ed Mayes of Acton in the 33rd Texas House district was named to two committees by Speaker Bill Clayton. He joins the State Affairs and Intergovernmental Affairs committees, with Uher and Short serving as chairs respectively. Banquet speaker will be Bob Martin of Fort Worth. Tickets are on sale for the Chamber and Reporter banquet at $3.00 each.
Miss Gloria McDonald of Eastland a mid term graduate of Tarleton State University in Stephenville has been hired as a second kindergarten teacher in the local school system. She took over half of the 38 pupils enrolled in kindergarten here for the Spring semester on Monday morning according to School Supt. Charles Gibbs.
Somervell County Centennial Association seeks old photographs for 100th anniversary events May 30 to June 7. Residents are asked to loan images to Mrs. Paul Hancock Jr. at the Country Store, with care to return undamaged. Beard contests will advertise the celebration, with prizes and fun galore.
Three Vietnamese children of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Morrison attend Glen Rose schools after arriving Oct 30 from Saigon. Ba 19 Suong 9 and Thanh 10 placed in Mrs. Robert Kagy’s fourth grade class. Father works for Brown & Root Construction Co. at the nuclear plant under construction.
Weather observer Robert Mack reports January was exceptionally dry with only .51 inch of moisture through Tuesday. Temperatures ranged from 10 degrees on January 13 to 87 on Monday afternoon as Mack presents the weekly figures and notes.
Bryan M. Dixon, SSA claims representative, says he will be in Glen Rose on Monday instead of the usual third Monday, and this change applies only for February.
Jack Coker, director of the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Waco, announced a new service for the Glen Rose area. Veterans can now call toll free 800-792-11110 to reach a Veterans Benefits Counselor in Waco for assistance.
Glen Rose Mayor Dan McCarty announced the city received a federal grant of 10 875 dollars to fund planning for a new wastewater treatment plant. The EPA funds 75 percent of project costs under federal water acts, with the remainder from local government, released by President Ford after Nixon impounded funds 18 months ago.
Scotty Marsh came home Tuesday from Whitney Hospital where he had been a patient for a few days. He expects to return to school later this week.
Mr and Mrs L L Deason were in the Whitney area Sunday visiting Mr and Mrs Willard Deason who were staying at their farm for the weekend.
