Gardening Course Scheduled Jan 30 in Community Center

Local honor roll lists 30 students this six weeks

Principal Luther Dunkerson and Laurie Moseley release the third six weeks honor roll showing 50 students total. Dunkerson lists 14 high school honorees while Moseley has 18 junior high and 18 elementary. Names span fourth to senior grades with multiple students named per class.

Sheriff’s Dept Work Load Shows Increase in Somervell County

Sheriff Frank Laramore reports rising workload with 118 prisoners processed last year vs 21 in 1970 and 31 in 1971. 86 in 1973. Nine house burglaries occurred with seven cleared. Civil papers served grew from seven in 1970 to 138 in 1974. He cites growing youth drug use as chief concern.

Dallas man Hayden Moore undergoes heart surgery

Hayden Moore of Dallas underwent open heart surgery Tuesday at St. Pauls Hospital. He was moved from intensive care on Saturday and is reported to be doing fine. His mother Mrs. Clarence Moore and sister Mrs. Carl Simmons returned home Thursday after visiting four days.

Fire Destroys Home On Highway 67 Sunday

A Sunday morning fire believed to have started from a hot water heater destroyed the trailer home of Mrs. Ava Nell Land her son Dean and grandson Barry Stewart on Highway 67. The Teague residence nearby was unharmed. Dean Land escaped in his underwear as flames engulfed the structure, a total loss with possessions gone. Land family had spent the night with relatives in Crossroads.

Texas State Senate appoints Tom Creighton of Mineral Wells as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development during the 64th Legislative Session opening. He also becomes vice chair of the Finance Committee and serves on Natural Resources and the water subcommittee.

Mrs. Alice Davis Buried In Rites Here Sunday

Mrs. Alice Davis 82 died in a Meridian nursing home Friday and was buried Sunday at Nancy Smith Cemetery after 2 p.m. services at Reynolds Funeral Chapel led by Pete Harper and Virgil Pace. She was born Aug 29 1892 in Somerville County and married Samuel Bert Davis in 1913. Survivors include two sons, two sisters and three grandchildren. Pallbearers named.

Baylor University students from Waco will conduct the evening service at Rainbow Baptist Church Sunday at 7:00 p.m. They will speak and sing about their upcoming Malaysia mission trip this spring. Two Accidents Noted At Same Scene Last Week

Two accidents occurred near the same site on Highway 67 five miles west of town shortly before noon last Wednesday. A truck driven by Billy Joe Sherrard overturned after a tire blew out. he escaped injury. In the second crash, J W Abel and John Holmstrom collided while slowing in traffic. Holmstrom was cited for failure to control speed.

Unemployment Service Expanded to Dublin Office

The Texas Employment Commission will run unemployment insurance services weekly at the Dublin office due to heavy claim loads. A representative will be at the American Legion Auxiliary Building at 119 East Blackjack Street every Thursday to serve Somervell County claimants.

Otis Newman Buried In Rites On Saturday

Funeral rites were held in Reynolds Funeral Chapel for Otis Newman 79. Officiants were H P Long and Virgil Pace. Newman died Thursday after several weeks illness. Born March 25 1895 in Sedalia Missouri he married Oma Reynolds in April 1914. He was a Pentecostal Church member. Survivors include wife one son Porter A of Walnut Springs two sisters Mrs Georgia Baldwin and Mrs Davie McKeithan a brother Porter four grandchildren eight step grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial at Ward Branch Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers named Harold Smith Arnold Whitworth Hershel Reynolds Robert Martin Otis Shipman Herman Proctor.
