Man and Wife Jailed On Burglary Count

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard O. Box of Fort Worth are jailed on burglary charges. They allegedly took two television sets clothing radio dishes and a car from the cabin of Arthur Jesse Newman at Brownie's Courts. Deputy Bill Butler and City Marshal A P Johnson arrested Box in Fort Worth and returned him to jail. Mrs Box was later taken into custody on theft charges. Both are held in Cleburne with bonds set at 1000 each.

Osborn Services Held On Friday

Funeral service for Jerry E. Osborn 74 was held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Finley officiating. He died at his Hillsboro office after a heart attack. Born May 7 1896 in Hill City he married Carmen Daniel in 1924 and taught 18 years before joining the State Department of Public Welfare later retiring after 20 years. He served as Supervisor of Centers under the Community Action Program of Hill County with offices in Hillsboro. He was a Baptist and Mason. Survivors include his wife a son Jerry Dan Osborn of Brownsville three sisters one brother and one grandson. Burial in Glen Rose Cemetery with pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named.

Local Artist Wins Noted Show For Barnard Mill Painting

Mrs. Weldon Eakin of this city was recognized among 20 outstanding pictures in a 60 entry Fort Worth Heritage Hall show. Her painting of the Barnard Mill at the hospital site earned notice in a Texas Historical Medallions themed exhibit sponsored by the Texas Fine Arts Association. Her work will be shown in a Fort Worth National Bank lobby in late February and March.

Court Increases Two Salaries In Action

Commissioners in regular court session boosted Constable Bill Butler’s pay from 50 to 75 dollars monthly and raised Sheriff C M Speck Strawn’s pay by 25 dollars per month, totaling 6300 dollars yearly with 1300 dollars for an expense account. The court reappointed M Wilson Loper as County Veterans Service Officer.

Thieves strike in Somervell County twice in a week

Burglars hit a Dinosaur Valley State Park barn on Tuesday night and Stewart Grocery on Highway 67 in Nemo early Monday. They pried a door, stole a new chain saw, bath fittings, hand tools and a cash register. Investigators linked the crimes to two men later stopped near 67. A register was found at Chalk Mountain and a Weatherford trucking firm reportedly robbed. Authorities issued warrants for former residents of Bono.

Rainbow woman joins Community Public Service Co as clerk

Mrs Bills Black of Rainbow has been employed as clerk at the Community Public Service Co. office replacing Mrs C J Goff Jr who plans to retire February 1 to full time motherhood. Black formerly Jeanette Odell lived here 1952 to 1958, moved back two years ago with husband after building a home across Highway 144 from Squaw Creek Garage. He works for Eugene Ratliff Tire Co. They moved here from Midland where she worked at Midland National Bank.

Tiger basketball squads ride winning streaks in district play

The B team boys won 34 27 and the girls 48 19 at Whitney as Carol Gosdin led with 11. Jerry Hancock scored 25 in the boys A 55 40 loss. Friday China Springs saw the B squad win 42 19 and Debra Schuelke 21 in the Tigerettes 50 33 victory as the boys fell 55 30.
