The CSO Talent Show on Friday at 7 30 p m funds a school bathroom upgrade. Five facilities serve 299 pupils and are outside the main buildings, with previews and Parents Night to explain the need. all community members are urged to participate.
Five candidates compete for three seats on the school board. Two seek re election: Moody Marsh and Wallace Mc Pherson. Orville Reeves has not announced. Other contenders are Phil Woodruff Tom Voss and Walter Ernst.
Mr and Mrs Duane Teague welcomed a daughter Sherry Lynn on Saturday February 22 at Cleburne Memorial Hospital. The newborn weighed 5 pounds 7 ounces at birth. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Jake Howeth and Mr and Mrs E A Teague.
Sunday services at Rainbow church were led by Brother Joe English in the pastor's absence. Walter L. Newman 82 died February 21 at daughter’s home in Fort Worth. Funeral held Sunday at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel with Hitler A. D. Wood presiding. Survived by wife Elizabeth Thomasy, six children, two daughters, three sons, two brothers, one sister, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The children of W L Newman express gratitude to neighbors and friends for kindness after his death. They specifically thank those who brought food to the Woods home and offered other acts of support.
Co. R. Covington has been named City Marshal by the City Council in their meeting last Friday night. Examinations were given to all applicants and Covington earned the highest grade. He is a former Cleburne police and fireman and will begin duties tomorrow March 1.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Martins announce the birth of Tamara Diane on February 22 at 1 22 a m in Ardmore Oklahoma. She weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces at birth and joins 13 month old Theresa Ann as the Martins two daughters. Mrs Sid Mimms is mentioned.
Mrs T W Garner died Tuesday evening at her home after a brief illness. Born November 16, 1891 in Joshua, she married T W Garner in 1911 and lived in Somervell County. Surviving are her husband, a son Darrell, three daughters, three brothers and two infant deaths. Funeral at Methodist Church with Rev George Greebon officiating. Burial in White Church Cemetery. Glen Rose Funeral Home in charge.
First Lt. Philip Barott and his wife Jana Andrus Barott announce the birth of their son Bryan Edward on February 17 at Resurrection Hospital in Park Ridge Illinois. Maternal grandparents are Roy E. Andrus and wife of Galena Park, formerly Glen Rose, Texas.
The Glen Rose School Board voted in regular session to raise the rate for use of school busses from 10 cents per mile to 15 cents per mile for non academic trips. They cited rising costs of gasoline oil tires and repairs as failing to cover operating costs.
School district notes list Glen Rose teachers by grade and sections. It details each instructor’s education background, schools attended, and permanent certification statuses.
Public School Week events begin Monday night with open house for all grades. Parents tour rooms with 45 minute class explanations, CSO business session, and afternoon refreshments in the lunchroom. An open week invites both working mothers and fathers to visit, with a Friday student assembly at 8 30 a m open to the public.
Mrs. H. M. Sego, E. W. McCoy, Mrs. Maggie Marehbanks, Alex Kilcrease and other patients shown as improved. Edgar Ware discharged last Friday, Jack Keenum and Rhoades baby both discharged Sunday, Tobe Keenum listed as critical, Mrs. W. T. Mann and Clarence Moore noted with varying conditions.
The Somervell County Jr. Livestock Show starts this afternoon with Poultry judging at the Agriculture Grounds. Tomorrow features 4-H and FFA stock showing with ribbons and an 11 a m auction led by Bill White of Cleburne. Boswell Dairies brings a Ferris wheel for 10¢ rides to benefit FFA and FHA as the Quarter Horse Show begins at 1 30 with many entries expected.
Miss Bonnah Brawley daughter of Mr and Mrs H E Brawley and Leland D Boyd son of Mr and Mrs Jack Boyd of Chilton Texas were married February 14 at the First Baptist Church with Rev Jerry Vardeman officiating. The couple will live in Bovina Texas where Boyd is manager and editor of the Bovina Blade.
William B. Cowan Jr named Citizen of the Year and Sam White named Outstanding Farmer of the Year at Somervell County Chamber of Commerce Dinner. Plaques were presented to both men as guests from across the county attended the event. Reverend Lee Porter opened with invocation. The HD Club women served a ham dinner. Attendees included Rep. and Mrs. Ted Myatt and District Judge John A James.
A reader argues the four Precinct Commissioners in Somervell County were paid $8 per day in 1957 for county business with varying annual totals. They note employees earn $12 per day and suggest raising commissioner pay to $14 per day for each day worked and invite input to the commissioner.
