Glen Rose High School announces Colorama of 1955 a colorful show Friday March 4 at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium. The program blends lighting effects with Beethoven Dvo Rak Rachmaninoff and modern pieces by Peter de Rose. The Harmoneers orchestra will perform popular ballads and Hit Parade numbers while students and a guest conductor perform dances and entertainments. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 50 cents for adults 25 cents for students.
The Somervell County HD Community Center meeting heard budget approval for this year and a plan to send it to clubs for acceptance. Mrs Flippin attended Granbury on Feb 9 seeking an agent for two counties. HD clubs donated 43.25 to the March of Dimes. delegates named for the Temple district meeting are Mrs Flippin Rosemary Cavasos and Faye Page.
Mrs. C. A. Bridges attended the Bankers Convention in Fort Worth this week, highlighting professional engagement and industry networking opportunities for local financial leadership.
Band director Mr Jacobsen of Midwestern University will serve as a judge at the annual Glen Rose Band Clinic in March. Mrs Gus Snyder and Gus Jr were in Glen Rose Monday visiting friends and handling affairs. they reside in Roswell New Mexico.
City Marshall now has radio contact with adjoining cities after a unit was installed in his automobile last week. Civil Defense Agency and the city shared the expense. the radio will aid law enforcement and local emergencies.
Mr and Mrs Eugene Forsythe visit relatives in Glen Rose and Hico with son Robert and daughter Jane. Gene earned a civil engineering degree from the University of Texas and will join the Texas Highway Department as an assistant engineer after moving to Groesbeck February 5. He served in the U S Air Force from 1942 to 1950 as a pilot in WWII, discharged as a first lieutenant. Mrs Forsythe, a graduate of Texas State College for Women, recently resigned as a special education teacher in Austin.
Temple Summers, mayor of Glen Rose, proclaims March 7 to 12, 1955 as Public School Week. Citizens are urged to visit local schools and learn about the public school system and its role in democracy.
The Humble Company program Texas in Review will feature rodeo footage livestock judging and parades from Houston Ft Worth and San Antonio. Other segments include Boy Scouts reporting on 1954 activities to Gov Shivers in Austin a statewide hair dressing contest during National Beauty Salon Week the first George Washington statue in Texas and beef recipe contest finals by the Texas Beef Council.
The Buck Creek Home Demonstration Club met February 18 at Mrs. Faye Page’s home with ten members and one visitor Mrs. Betty Cheek. Mrs. Page elected as delegate for the district meeting at Temple on March 30 and 31. Everyone wore tacky attire. no prizes were awarded but Mrs. Jessie Barnett was named tackiest. Next meeting set for March 4 at Mrs. Serephie Riddle’s home.
Rock Creek Baptist Church was improved with a newly installed tile floor. The update enhances the interior and awaits use by the congregation.
Four seats on the Glen Rose Independent School District Board of Trustees will be up for election on April 2. Incumbents listed are Board President Alfred Hewlett Lynn Cook J O Pruitt Jr and D J Shackelford. Filing with the Secretary of the Board by March 23.
The Georges Creek Home Demonstration group met February 17 at Mrs. Jerry Pinson's home with St Patrick theme decorations. Eleven members and two visitors attended as Austin Gieske explained the Texas Highway System. Refreshments were served. next meeting set for March 3 at Mr. Norma Wood's home.
The Caine Mutiny opens Feb 27 at the Palace Theatre staged as a lavish Technicolor sea epic. Star power Bogart Ferrer Van Johnson MacMurray plus Newcomers Francis and Wynn headline, with Navy cooperation and location filming at Yosemite, San Francisco Bay, Pearl Harbor. Blood donation note follows.
A field representative of the Boy Scouts of America outlined the steps to organize a local scout troop at a meeting of the Optimist Club. The group will discuss further plans for Scout organization at an upcoming session.
Mayor Temple Summers and the City Council announced an April 5 election date with two mayoral and council seats. Three mayoral candidates Lewis Gresham N B Tankersley and Charles Bridges appeared on the ballot. For council nine names include Bob Taylor Lewis Reynolds Hale Riddle J E McLemore G C Gibbs Jr Wayne Eddy J D Spinks Herd Seale and Woody Brown reelected. The two seats to be filled are Woody Brown and L E Firestone. The current council lists S E Gilbert Gilbert Langdon Maurice Marsh Firestone and Brown.
The 16,000 World War II veterans in GI bill farm training must file their 1954 earnings with VA Regional Offices by March 1, 1955. Missing the deadline could delay subsistence payments. Forms are available from instructors. Korean GI Bill trainees are exempt as their allowances use a different calculation.
Word arrived of the death of Mrs. John F Farr on Sunday February 13 in Houston. She was laid to rest in Houston. She is survived by her husband, a son Dr Cecil Farr of Beaumont, and a daughter Mrs O S Lines of Austin.
