Voters in Glen Rose Independent School District favor a 10 to 1 bond approval totaling 325000 to finance a new kindergarten through eighth grade elementary building. The plan includes a single roof, central climate control, a junior science lab, library, lunch room, rest rooms, and updated facilities.
Pete West of this city pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in County Court. Patrolmen Dewey Watson and Bob Brock arrested him on Farm Road 56 near the junction to Tarrant Baptist Encampment on a Saturday evening. County Judge Temple Summers imposed a $50 fine, $40 in court costs, and three days in jail, plus a six month license suspension probation. Mr and Mrs Stanley Skinner were in Dallas buying merchandise for Helen's Gifts.
Four Glen Rose High School band members Harold Parnell Kay Gibson Sally Woodley and Karen Woods won first division ratings at the regional UIL Solo and Ensemble contests in Brownwood on Saturday Band Director Harold Parnell said the ensemble work was student driven and solo medals bring the Tiger Band to seven total this year Earlier the majorettes won first place silver in twirling competition Also Bill Butler and Charles Wirt returned from Burksville Kentucky visiting relatives.
Mrs. Frank Parrish of Cleburne and her daughter Lisa mourn the absence of M Sgt Frank Parrish who has been missing in Vietnam since January 1968 after a Hawaii R and R visit. Nearby Lt Col Thomas J Curtis returns home after more than seven years as a POW near Hanoi.
Ken Holmes Jr a Meridian native and four months Keene city marshal was named local city marshal in a continued city council session Monday night John Gardner city secretary said the meeting started Feb 12 three applicants were interviewed Holmes will assume duties Monday evening March 5.
A couple from Hico and a man from Iredell were arrested on Highway 144 south of town Saturday night and jailed on various charges. Dewey Watson and Bob Brock were the arresting officers. Tommy Dale Murray faced Driving While Intoxicated and Aggressive Assault on a Police Officer charges. Kathy Murray was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Cecil Ray-Holley with Being Drunk in Public. The Murrays were jailed in different locations and released Sunday afternoon. Mrs Murray paid a $50 fine, Holley a $17.50 fine, and Murray posted a $600 bond. Arraignment for Murray set in County Court today before Judge Temple Summers.
The school board announced two next week sessions with architects and engineers to discuss a new elementary school. A separate meeting with interested contractors and construction firms will also be held. Both open to the public at 7:30 p.m.
In a called school board meeting on Tuesday night, Mrs. Jim Hawthorne was appointed school secretary replacing Mrs. Carl Amburn who resigned effective March 1. The Amburns plan to move to Oregon.
The 20th Annual Youth Appreciation Banquet will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. hosted by the Glen Rose Optimist Club in Glen Lake Methodist Camp dining hall. Master of ceremonies is Charles Talley. Rev. Dewayne Finley offers invocation. Tom Voss gives welcome, Mark Flanary delivers response. Coaches Schuelke and Becker introduce high school teams and Jory Trimble introduces the Football Sweetheart. J. M. McCroskey presents R C Leach Awards. County Judge Temple Summers presents the Optimist Award. Keynote speaker James L. Curly Hays, ex high school star, Tulsa All-America end, Navy veteran, and long-time official, is introduced as the finale. Tickets cost $1.75.
Randall Talley, a 9-year-old Somervell County 4 H Club member and son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Talley of this city, showed two Polled Hereford heifers. He placed one heifer first in the junior show and second in the open show, while the second heifer took sixth in the junior and 11th in the open show.
Mrs Bessie Million, previously living in a Stephenville nursing home, has become a resident at Jameson Manor.
Walnut Springs hosts the Seventh Annual Rattlesnake Hunt starting Friday March 2. Sponsored by the Walnut Springs Lions Club and Fort Worth Venomaires the event hopes for warm weather to aid venom hunting. Activities include pit shows and venom milking for anti snakebite serum with a Saturday night dance at the Lions Den.
Funeral services for Lee J Currie 75 were held at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with Rev J L Glaze and Rev John Hutcheson officiating. Currie died Tuesday after a long illness. He had lived in Somervell County, worked in farming and ranching, and for 21 years with Railway and Terminal Co in Dallas. He married Nora Bowden in 1925 and moved back to Somervell in 1945. Survivors include his wife, three sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery, Cleburne, with pallbearers from his family and friends.
Weather in the sector remained near normal for the season with temperatures from 22 degrees to 80 degrees last week. Rain and snow added 0.28 inches over the weekend, lifting monthly totals to 1.50 inches and yearly rainfall to 4.32 inches.
