Tax receipts to date show 29 431 51 net total for 1957 taxes through January 31 with 66 percent collected and delinquent amounts around 5200. Census roll 1958 lists 520 total, 77 losses, 122 additions, 41 six year olds. Glen Rose enrollment up to 521 with 393 in grammar and 128 in high school.
Mrs Cynthia Curtis 82 died Saturday at her home in Cleburne where she had lived in recent years. Funeral services were held at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel. She is survived by three brothers Tom Ben and John Swaim all of Glen Rose. Burial followed in Nancy Smith cemetery with the Glen Rose Funeral Home in charge.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Flanary of Granbury welcome an 8 pound 9 ounce son named Gary Eugene born Wednesday February 19 at Marks English hospital Grandparents are Mr and Mrs John Flanary.
Miss Verlyn Lee daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Lee was named on the first semester scholarship list at Tarleton State College Dean Paul A Cunyus announced this week Miss Lee a freshman majoring in secondary education fits Tarletons scholastic standards for the honor roll
Citizens must file by March 2 to appear on the April 1 city election ballot. Terms expiring this year include Gilbert Langdon Gene Linch and Lewis Reynolds.
County fair invites women and girls to enter five culinary classes including decorated cakes pies and table settings. Prizes include cash or ribbons with a noon auction of cakes and pies to raise funds for Rural Youth Clubs 4 H FHA and FFA. Entries due by March 1 and February 28 for exhibit booths contact Mrs Engleman and Mrs Flippin directing contests and exhibits.
Mrs. Etta Taber longtime Walnut Springs resident and Glen Rose visitor died in a Waco hospital on Tuesday February 18. Funeral services were set for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church with burial in Walnut Springs Cemetery. Bristel Funeral Home coordinated arrangements. Survived by sister Mrs. Jim Rushing Walnut and brother Jim Snider Waco.
Much interest is centered on the Junior Livestock Show and Quarter Horse Show set for next Friday and Saturday February 28 and March 1. About twenty entries are already received for the Quarter Horse Show with several more daily, including James Knapp Arlington and Jane Mays Okemah Oklahoma among others.
Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce names M G McConal president and J M McCroskey vice president with Temple Summers reelected secretary. New directors H A Hunter Kelley Lewellen and J M McCroskey replace Hatter Moss and Sego. Annual awards dinner at school cafeteria next Tuesday features Delbert Downing as main speaker and honors Outstanding Farmer and Citizen of the Year. Tickets cost 1 dollar and are sold by HD Club members.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Smoot of Houston spent weekend in Glen Rose with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Murry West reflecting a family gathering.

The 55th Texas Legislature changes trustee election rules for Glen Rose ISD and County boards. Candidates must file a written request with the County Judge at least 30 days before April 5 election day, a 20 day increase from previous 10 day rule. Filing ends March 6 at 5 pm. ballots print 16 days before election enabling absentee voting.
About 100 workers from Glen Rose Rock Creek and Rainbow Baptist churches plan a Sunday afternoon census of the county. The canvass begins at 1 00 p m with door to door visits and invites residents to cooperate with the effort.
C A Milam and Son, long established in the county, began remodeling to separate the grocery department from dry goods. The grocery unit is sold to Mr and Mrs Cecil Wood who will open it next week and also stock hardware and appliances.
George Snyder purchases half interest in Line Lumber Co and will be co owner with L Line. The partners plan gradual expansion of warehouse space and inventory. Snyder was recently affiliated with Convair.
The CSO announces a talent show on Friday night March 7 at 7 30. Admission is 1.00 per person or 2.50 per family to benefit the Junior High School rest room fund. To participate contact Margaret White or Faye Page.
Mrs. P. A. Lechner, 89, mother of W. W. Lechner, died at her Terrell home last Sunday. She was Terrell’s oldest resident. Services were held Monday in Terrell with attendees from Glen Rose including Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Milam Jr. and several local residents.
State Representative Ted Myatt announces his candidacy for re election in the Democratic primary. He cites Texas government crises and his first term experience as basis for continuing to vote on issues without special interest influence. He pledges openness to constituents and outlines lobby control concerns and plans for Austin coverage.
First National Bank will be closed tomorrow in observance of Washington's Birthday. Bank operations paused for the holiday with no regular services available.
The public school calendar lists a weeklong event from March 3 through March 7. Schools will host activities and observations across the district to promote education and community involvement.
CSO Talent Show will be held on Friday night March 7 at 7 30 p m in the Auditorium with local acts to perform and audience participation expected.
A rummage sale and bake sale organized by the CSO and 7th grade will be held tomorrow in the Marsh Building from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
