Chamber Elects New Directors in Secret Ballot

The Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce selected Bob Bullock Temple Summers and Jack McCarty as directors in a mail secret ballot last week. They replace Dan McCarty Jack Bridges Jr and Bill Cowan for three-year terms with hold-over directors remaining. The board will meet today at 11 a.m. in the chamber office to elect officers and outline the new year’s program.

Baptist Pastor Joins West Indies Revival Crusade

Rev. Sam Jones, pastor of the First Baptist Church, departs for Jamaica to preach in a revival under the churchs World Mission program. This marks his second West Indies trip in three years and the 117th revival since entering ministry in 1957. Rev. T D Hall will lead services in his absence, returning March 4.

Clark McClammy Buried Sunday

James Clark McClammy 81 died in a Fort Worth hospital Friday evening. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Born April 14, 1888 in East Texas he resided in the county for 69 years. Survived by wife Dick Ramfield and many nieces and nephews. Burial in Squaw Creek Cemetery with pallbearers Pete Hatter Elbert Wilson Murray Wilson Doyle Aston Lynn O Neal and Jacob McClammy.

Graveside rites for Arlin Obe son Bales 57 of Burleson were held at Georges Creek Cemetery Thursday at 4 30 p m Burial followed services at Church of Jesus Christ in Fort Worth with Rev J N Johnson officiating Bales a native of Georges Creek died in a Burleson nursing home after a long illness He was a retired truck driver Survivors include his wife two step daughters two step sons three brothers and six sisters.

Rites Held For Mrs Johnston At Waco Episcopal Church

Funeral services for Mrs J H Hank Johnston of Cross Roads were conducted at the Episcopal Church in Waco on Friday afternoon with burial in Moore Cemetery. She died Wednesday after a short illness in a local hospital. Born October 24 1904 in Mart she was the daughter of the late Edward B Mosley and moved to Somervell County a decade ago with her husband. She is survived by her husband.

OB Club to Play High School Team in Benefit Basketball Game

Members of the Glen Rose Tiger Quarterback Club will face a team of high school boys in a basketball game at the school gym tonight at 7 00. Proceeds go toward financing a concession stand for the local football stadium.

Temple Summers county official said C W Spencer Weldon Eakin and Rev C Edward Shipman filed for trustee positions on the Glen Rose Independent School District ballot. Filing deadline is March 4 with terms expiring for Paul Hancock Jr and Joe Gordon Whitworth. Unexpired Lewis Gresham term to be filled. Glen O Neal to serve remaining year. Election set for April 4.

Federal Holiday Planned Monday observance noted

The First National Bank post office and federal offices will close all day Monday in observance of George Washington's birthday which falls on Sunday this year. State offices and many businesses do not observe the holiday.

Gene Simpson of Precinct and H. L. Lilley of Precinct 2 have filed for reelection to the County School Board. The election is scheduled for Saturday April 4, with filing deadline March 4 for a ballot place.

Plans are complete for a 3 30 p m dedication Sunday at the new Glen Rose Post Office. Congressman Poage will give the principal address and present Postmaster Gibbs a Capitol flown flag. The program includes band music, prayers, welcomes, historical remarks, and remarks by Poage. Local officials invite all residents to attend.

Local Fire Crew Fights Three Blazes Near Town

The volunteer fire department battled two grass fires in town last Tuesday afternoon at the Hough and Hulsey homes. A pasture fire Wednesday afternoon burned about 400 acres on the W. C. Davis Estate and other properties, with fences destroyed. Help arrived from Melvin Moore, Gene Linch, Sid Knight, and the Granbury Fire Department, and Chief Dan McCarty thanked all helpers. Weekend visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Goldsmith and John Wesley of Arlington.

Commissioners Attend USDA Meet Tuesday

County Commissioners M S Matt Teague Pomp Norman and J B Gosdin went to Fort Worth to hear the USDA Food and Nutrition Service explain the states Commodity Distribution and Food Stamp Program for needy families. Judge Temple Summers and Commissioner Oran Page could not attend due to other commitments and illness. The meeting sought to recruit more counties into the program. Visiting at Walnut Springs were Miram Hillock Cecil Rundell Hank Smith and Terry Smith families.

Man Jailed Here On Desertion Charge

Sheriff Strawn arrested James Flemings, formerly of this community, in Waco last week on a child desertion charge. He is jailed here with no bond set. A Cleburne man arrested here Saturday night for public drunkenness posted a $50 fine Monday.

Miss Anna Gardner Dies In Fort Worth

Miss Anna Gardner aged 76 of Fort Worth died at her home in Fort Worth Tuesday of last week. She was sister of John Gardner City Office manager. Rites were held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Fort Worth with Dr. Clarence Baldwin officiating. Interment followed at Laurel Land Cemetery.
