Glen Rose High School's Tigerette basketball team clinches a second consecutive district title with a win over Clifton last Friday. A final regular season game at Leach Gym tonight could leave them undefeated in district play and set up a bi district game for February 27. Ten Glen Rose High School Tiger Band members won awards at the District Band Meet in Burleson last Saturday. Warwick Jenkins a 40 year old Waxahachie lawyer formally announced his candidacy for the Texas State Senate representing the 12th District to succeed Crawford Martin. He was born in Waco, a descendant of a pioneer Texas family linked to Baylor University and the Baptist church. He grew up in Waco public schools and attended Baylor after three years of college, his studies interrupted by World War II. He served 42 months including combat duty before returning to Baylor.

Teel W. Dunlap Dies At 79 In Meridian Hospital
Funeral services for Teel W. Dunlap 79 were held at First Baptist Church Walnut Springs with ministers from Walnut Springs Lubbock Meridian. He died Wednesday in Meridian Hospital after publishing Walnut Springs Hustler from 1929 to 1949 and running a job printing shop until illness. Survived by twin sister Leila Odle Meridian four nieces and nephews. Interment Meridian Cemetery Brister Funeral Home in charge.

Grass Fires Burned by Dry Conditions Prompt Warnings
Grass fires have kept firemen busy for two weeks with daily alarms. A hay barn burned on Hawkins place last Thursday and a shed near Paluxy River was damaged by a grass fire on Tuesday. Fire Chief Lynn O Neal warns against burning brush and grass with dry ground and urges caution until rain arrives. The old fire truck is in the shop but expected back soon.

Miss Mary Elizabeth Currie aged 86 native of Somervell County died Wednesday February 7 in local hospital about 2 p.m. She was born January 13 1876 daughter of Angus and unknown Currie and a Seventh Day Adventist. Services were held at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel February 9 at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were great nephews. Survivors include six nephews and nieces Lee Currie Glen Rose Eugenia Pugh Burleson Mary Bowden Lula Currie Cleburne.

Somervell County Finances Fire Truck Purchase in 1951
The Somervell County Commissioners Court approved buying a fire truck in 1951 after a petition by landowners and taxpayers. Central Fire Truck Corporation sold the unit for 5450 dollars, financed by a 4900 dollar bank loan at six percent for three years, repaid with three time warrants totaling 4900 dollars from a tax fund. Warrants dated 1953 1954 and 1955 will be paid from a seven cent county tax levy.
