County Commissioners Approve Time Warrants for Dump Truck
Somervell County Commissioners Court met Monday and authorized time warrants to buy a dump truck for Precinct 2. They also transferred 800 dollars to the county jury fund from a special account once held by former Sheriff Paul Bone. Election judges were named for six precincts: Howard Sege, Clyde Stasey, Jess Conway, Henry Stewart, Earl Cavasos, and Emerson Rhodes.

M R Matthews visits Glen Rose after 44 years
M R Matthews of 1422 South David Street San Angelo visited Glen Rose Thursday night and Friday and asked the Reporter to mail the paper for a year. Reared at Paluxy he enjoyed seeing old friends Murray West and C A Milam and visited Squaw Creek Cemetery where his father rests. He worked for the railroad many years, now retired, and has a traveling job covering four states including Texas. Mrs O L Howard just returned from a month with her daughter at Altus Oklahoma.

Coke Gibbs won three firsts three seconds and one fourth in the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show poultry division. Rain totals flood Somervell County after warm spell
The Somervell area received 2.52 inches of rain from Monday to Monday night, with totals this month reaching 2.59 inches. Weatherman T. M. Davis notes rainfall surpassed February last year, and temperatures ranged from a low of 22 to a high of 69 degrees, with 32 degrees recorded midweek.

Local Baptist Pastor Accepts Glen Rose Post
Rev. Haywood Kube will assume pastoral duties at First Baptist Church of Glen Rose on February 28 following his services there Sunday night. He comes from Central Baptist Crandall, where he pastored the past year, and will move with Mrs. Kube and two children to the church parsonage. Ronald Sexton and Clyde Bishop escaped injuries in a Monday crash at Highway 67 and Hereford Street during heavy rain. Sexton’s 1958 Chevrolet was a total loss and the 1959 Ford pickup sustained about 400 dollars in damage.

Junior High Cagers Take Consolation Wins in Godley Meet
In the Godley tournament last weekend both junior high girls and boys teams earned consolation titles. Girls beat Crowley 22 14 after an opening loss to Godley 19 15 and a 54 15 win over Alvarado with Lalla English as top scorer in each game. Boys lost to Godley 40 20 then beat Alvarado 23 14 and edged Crowley 33 32 on Saturday with Roger Thompson as top scorer in tournament play.

Historical Tour Led by Kay White Travers Somerville County
The Somerville County Historical Society conducted a Saturday tour with 18 participants. Stops included an old flour mill at Marks English Clinic, a cabin claimed to be John Wilkes Booths home, the first county water well, Ben Moss house, Hamblin home with dinosaur tracks, the Fountain of Perpetual Drink spring, Shaky Springs, and the Rock Church in Hood County. A picnic closed the day as plans for another improved tour and wider publicity were announced for future dates.

School attendance in Glen Rose declines due to illness
J. M. McCroskey, Glen Rose Schools superintendent, reported continued attendance problems from illness. Absentees have ranged 50 to 60 weekly for three weeks, about 12 percent of students. Schools were closed three days the week of January 25 29 to improve turnout. Absenteeism normally runs about 4 14 percent. Mrs Bart Baldwin and her daughter of Wichita Falls visited Glen Rose for several days.
