The 1961 Texas Official Highway Travel Map with the theme Over 60 000 Miles of Motoring Pleasure is now available to the public. Free copies can be requested from the Texas Highway Department or picked up at highway district offices. The map shows 2 067 miles of multilane divided highways, 350 farm to market miles, 20 000 miles of Farm to Market Roads, 52 State Parks, two new recreational parks Eisenhower and Atlanta, and 1 827 cities and towns.

Joseph Charles Smith a lifelong farmer and Methodist lay leader died February 2 1961 after a period of illness. He moved from Oden to Glen Rose ten years ago and was active in church community and Civic affairs including church school work and homecoming leadership. Survived by four sons one daughter a sister and six grandchildren funeral at the Glen Rose Methodist Church with Rev John Basham officiating. Interment in Oden Chapel cemetery.

NYsTel Home Destroyed by Fire
The home of T. C. Nystel, 79, in the Post Oak community was destroyed by fire on Thursday January 27. He lived alone and was ill at the time, the blaze starting in a room ceiling likely from a heater flue. He received clothing and bedding donations to help restart, but had no way to call for help and all was lost.

C A Starnes, son of Mr and Mrs W W Starnes of Rainbow, accepts call as pastor of New Prospect Baptist Church effective February 5 1961.
