Grass Fire Burns 1000 Acres Across County
A brush fire origin on the Wayne Roberts property sparked a grass fire that consumed about 1000 acres in the county's west. The blaze burned 700 to 800 acres on Roberts and nearby plots, with another 200 acres scorched on adjacent properties. It spread to Polk Bagley, Bob Reading, and Clyde Stasey, as the Glen Rose Fire Department fought the flames through the afternoon and into the night.

Fred L. Williams Dies After Heart Surgery in Dallas
Fred L. Williams, 52, died Monday in a Dallas hospital after open heart surgery. A Somervell County native, he once operated Williams Lumber Co. in town. James Allen Underwood dies. rites in Glen Rose
James Allen Underwood died suddenly at his home near Paluxy on Monday January 29. Funeral services were Thursday February 1 at 3 p m in the Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitchell and Rev C A Starnes officiating. He was a long time Somervell County resident in farming and ranching. He is survived by his wife Bercha two sons James of Granbury and Dennis Ray of Fort Worth two daughters Wanda Lindsey of Duffau and Dorothy Jo Hawkins of Glen Rose nine grandchildren and several sisters and brothers and many other relatives and friends attended. Pallbearers included Claude Stacey George Edwards Jim Parker Charlie Hawkins James Lindsey and Hilton Brackin. Burial followed at Nancy Smith Cemetery.
