Twenty six candidates filed with the Somervell County Democratic Chair man for places on the primary ballots as the six pm deadline passed. U S Congressman Bob Poage heads the ballot while Tom Creighton is the sole applicant for State Senator in the 22nd District though reports say another candidate filed. Ed Mayes is unopposed for State Representative in the 33rd Legislative District covering Somervell Hood Erath and Johnson Counties. Several nominees seek the 18th District Court judgeship including Ferguson Crosier Mahanay and Oran Smith Jr all of Cleburne. John R MacLean seeks District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District covering Somervell and Johnson Counties. Sam Freas runs unopposed for County Attorney. Frank Laramore seeks reelection as Sheriff and Tax Assessor Collector opposing Paul Bone. Precinct 1 Commissioner candidates include Sanderson Hammond Hill Osborn and Mack with incumbent Mack. Precinct 3 Commissioner candidates are Coleman Pugh Frank Rhodes incumbent Wiley Gosdin and Don Linch. West is unopposed for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 while Precinct 3 contenders include J B Young Ms A Houghtelling and Charlie W Spencer. Bill Butler is unopposed for Precinct 3 Constable.
Frank Laramore Somervell County Tax Assessor Collector said new 1976 automotive license plates went on sale Monday sales were slow early this week. The single 1 by 1.5 inch plastic date patch attaches to the rear plate with installation instructions. First licenses sold to Raymond Eccles who bought passenger car and truck plates.
National Weather Service weekly report by Robert Mack notes a dry week in Glen Rose with January rainfall totaling .21 inches and last day rain of .10 inches. Temperatures ranged from 10 degrees on Tuesday to 78 degrees on Friday as Mack presents the weekly figures.
Glen Rose Junior High boys swept four games to win the Godley Invitation. They beat Joshua 41 28 Granbury 28 26 Grandview 31 20 and host Godley 37 28 in the final. The girls won one game 21 18 against Joshua and lost 39 24 to Granbury. The teams host Hico tonight at 6 00. The boys are 22 0 this season and the girls 10 7.
Ricky West announces his candidacy for Justice of the Peace Precinct No 1 and will run unopposed on the Democratic ballot after incumbent H C Polley did not seek reelection. West, a Rainbow native and Glen Rose High School graduate, is married to Ruth Walker and worked with Brown & Root on the local power plant project. He aims to preside fairly and asks precinct residents for support.
Chief Butler authorized the Reporter to announce his candidacy for Constable, Precinct Butler. He says the precinct constable is a key link in law enforcement and promises his best efforts and cooperation with area officers if elected. He solicits votes from all precinct citizens and plans to meet voters before the May election.
Brub Young announces candidacy for Justice of the Peace at Precinct No 3. He a native of the city pledges fair impartial court handling, and says he will meet as many voters as possible before election day.
Fifteen Somervell county residents attended the annual banquet and business meeting of the Leon Bosque RC D at PAR Country Club on Lake Proctor. Attendees included County Judge Jack Cathey, several commissioners and their spouses, and numerous local residents such as Robert Mack Floyd Reynolds Gerry Wood Jay Ivy Jack McCarty Farris Gartrell Joy Brooks Ruth Parker Buzz Evans and Dan McCarty.
Component Construction Co. of Dallas named low bidder for structural and plumbing work with a $21,929 bid on a new school bus maintenance building behind the Glen Rose Church of Christ. Seven firms bid overall. Kimmons Electric of Granbury was low bidder for electrical with $1,255.56. Total cost expected about $25,000.
Don Linch of the Nemo community announces his candidacy for County Commissioner in Precinct 3. He is 43, a native of Iredell, married with four children, and works in construction with Brown & Root on a power plant project. He vows to use his building experience in office and to visit residents to earn votes.
Rev. Bill Schibler of First Baptist Church announced gospel concert "Portraits of Jesus" by Sky-Eagle of Waco on Sunday morning. He will be joined by Mrs. Ivy Jean Sky-Eagle and Mrs. Billy Lewis on piano and Mrs. Herbert Connally on organ. The public is invited to attend this sacred performance during worship.
