License Plate Sales Begin at County Tax Office

New auto license plates for highway vehicles went on sale at the office of County Tax Assessor-Collector C. M. Speck Strawn here Monday, with first day sales totaling 76 sets of plates. First set of tags sold was mailed to Lometa Caven in Dallas bearing DRY 675. Herd Seale was first over the counter customer, picking up personalized plates H SEALE and purchasing commercial tags for a pickup and a travel trailer.

Dinos Luncheon Draws Forty At Community Center

Forty attendees at the Community Center luncheon shared a "Something-for-Everyone" event with potluck entries of plants bulbs and seeds. Unusual bone doll sent from Vietnam to local woman

Mrs. Clara Miles shows an unusual bone carved doll she received weeks ago from her great grandson Rick Simpson who serves with the Seabees in Vietnam. The 12 inch figure on a charcoal base features coal carved hair and came from Rick during his Vietnam tour. Simpson, son of D. W. and a grandson of Ben Bingham, is now back in the United States.

Two Cars Damaged In Mishap Near Rodeo Arena

Two women escaped injury when their cars collided at Highway 67 near the rodeo arena Sunday shortly after noon. A 1866 Dodge driven by Paulette M. Cleveland of Irving crowded into the center median, jumped the divider, and struck a 1959 Chevrolet driven by Dianne Lynn Lemens of Rainbow on the left rear fender. Dodge damage estimated at 250 dollars and Chevrolet at 100 dollars.

First United Methodist Church Paid Taxes in Somervell County

County Tax Assessor C M Speck Strawn said the church was the only exempt organization to pay taxes on property in Somervell County after commissioners taxed churches and non profits on real estate. Only seven vacant church lots were paid, totaling 14.53 in school and county taxes, with action delayed awaiting a U S Supreme Court ruling expected before June 1.

Registration Totals Count 1316 in Somervell County Voting List

County Tax Assessor-Collector C. M. Speck Strawn announced on Tuesday that 1,316 Somervell County residents registered to vote before the January 31 deadline. This compared with 945 registrants last year and 1,414 in 1968, a presidential year.

Somervell County reported 1969 United States Savings Bond sales of 41 427.00, reaching 104 percent of a 40 000 goal. December sales were 1 237.00. The county was among 69 Texas counties meeting their target as state sales hit 175 487 920 year to date, up 7 percent from 1968.
