January Moisture Below Last Year Despite Snow and Sleet
Moisture from snow and sleet on Friday evening last week totaled .43 inches. January moisture reached 1.27 inches, while January last year measured 3.87 inches. The low temperature the past week was 10 degrees on Sunday morning, per U. S. Weather Bureau observer T. J. Davis.

Auto License Sales Begin Here Tuesday
C M Shock of this city was the first purchaser of 1966 auto license plates in Somervell County Tuesday morning, according to county tax assessor collector C M Speck Strawn. The new tags are black with white numerals and Somervell County numbers 2 DNT 225 through 995 and DNT 10 through 549. New plates may be installed anytime now and must be on all vehicles on Texas highways by April 1.

Stewart Home Destroyed By Fire In Stewart
Mr and Mrs Gerald Stewart and five children lost all their belongings when their home on McAllister Ave Stewart was destroyed by fire. The Lang C Martin Estate owned the house. Firemen stayed on duty about two hours in ten degree temperatures to keep adjacent houses from catching fire.

Advance payment offered to diversions in 1966 cotton program
Upland cotton farmers may receive half of the estimated diversion payment in advance when signing up for the 1966 program. Sam White, chair of the Somervell County ASC Committee, said signup runs Jan 24 to March 31. Farmers may divert 12.5 25 or 35 percent of allotments and receive 10.5 cents per pound for diverted acreage.

Poll Taxes Paid In County Rise From Last Year
Somervell County Tax Assessor reports 551 poll tax receipts issued before deadline, with 11 exemptions.
