Mrs Holley Injured Feeding Cow at Granbury Highway

Mrs. Roy Holley suffered a serious liver rupture after a cow lunged while being loaded into a trailer. The injury occurred Wednesday afternoon as she used a prod stick and closed the end gate. She was taken to Marks-English hospital. The Holleys reside on the Granbury highway.

Honor Rolls for the Third Six Weeks at Glen Rose Schools

Glen Rose Public Schools announced honor rolls for the third six weeks. Grades 1 to 3 list many A students including Jimmy Coker and Karen King. grades 4 to 8 and high school report top performers with scores above 90. Names span multiple grades and include students and staff in the district.

District Judge Penn Jackson presided Thursday January 24 hearing Lemens versus Lemens divorce granted and Russell versus Line petition for road through Line property with judgment in favor of Line. a third case was postponed.

New County Attorney George Day and Wife Move to Glen Rose

George A. Day and Shirley Day moved to Glen Rose to assume Somervell County County Attorney duties. Day, raised in Brownwood, holds a BS from A&M and degrees from Daniel Baker, Tarleton, and Texas University Law. He served as a First Lieutenant with the Army in Korea.

Town Meeting Discusses Fire Equipment and Utilities

At the Monday night town meeting about 25 to 30 residents discussed fire fighting equipment and extending utility lines to the east city. A reserve truck of 5000 gallons was proposed and backing for the Fire Department's equipment improved. Questions were raised about the Fire Truck Fund paid to the County. Tigers Triumph Over Itasca Clifton In District Action

Glen Rose Tigers won two district games last week beating Itasca 46 to 39 and Clifton 57 to 47 Bud Cooper led Clifton with 24 points while Hart and Thompson helped control rebounds. The Glen Rose girls won 43 to 41 and the boys B team edged Clifton B 29 to 28 Tuesday Midway beat Glen Rose 69 55 for the Polio fundraiser Points for Polio where attendees donate per Glen Rose point.

Glen Rose to Host Junior High Basketball Tournament

Glen Rose Junior High will host a boys and girls tournament next week with 12 teams. Teams entered include Glen Rose Granbury Stephenville Clifton Cranfill Gap and Grandview. First games start Monday night and the event runs through Thursday Friday and Saturday.

Final March of Dimes Bake Sale Tomorrow

The Ladies of the Home Demonstration Clubs organize a last effort to meet the county March of Dimes quota with a bake sale in the building next to the Vogue Beauty Shop. Poll taxes total 434 paid by Wednesday night. Tax Collector Paul Bone announced the office would stay open Thursday night January 31 until midnight.

Tiger Relays Set For March 16 At Local Track Meet

The Tiger Relays a popular annual track and field meet aims for March with about thirty five teams and roughly 325 entries. Sponsors may contact Coach Willingham to donate a trophy for the event.

Husband of Former Resident Dies

Allen L. Hall of 4801 Foard in Fort Worth died Saturday morning in a hospital. He had lived in Fort Worth five years after moving from Van Horn. He was husband of former Maurine Pruitt and father of Lauritta Hall. Hall, born in El Paso, once served as Culberson County commissioner and was a bank director in Van Horn. He owned ranches in Texas, Missouri and Arkansas and retired five years ago. He was Presbyterian and a Woodman of the World member. Survivors include his wife, daughter, and sister Mrs. C. F. Toolen of Van Horn. Funeral services were held.

Wet and Slick Weekend Weather Hits Granbury County

Rain measured by the REPORTER gauge brought 0.2 inches Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Cold icy conditions caused two wrecks in the county over the weekend. Alvis Million’s slick spot on Granbury highway overturned his 1957 Ford. A Sunday crash involved a 1952 Ford carrying nine people at Chalk Mountain with no injuries. Temperatures fell to the mid-20s, then rose. by Wednesday 4.5 inches had fallen in Glen Rose.

Vaughn Captures Featherweight Title in Cleburne Boxing Show

Wilbur Vaughn won the Featherweight title at a Cleburne event sponsored by Optomists after two wins including a first round TKO. Kenneth Harris, Fain Underwood, and Freddy Coleman also fought, with Harris claiming a Wednesday win, and others contesting in light and welterweight bouts.

1956 Best Conservation Year for Somervell Farmers

The Bosque Soil Conservation District reports 1956 as the best year for conservation in Somervell County with over half the cooperators applying at least one new practice. Notable efforts include farm ponds, miles of terracing and diversion works, large acreages of cover crops and crop residue, range improvements, brush control, and wildlife area work. Glen Rose placed in grass and soils judging. H. C. Polley reelected supervisor and named board chairman.

Church of Christ Calls Minister from Rio Grande Valley

The Church of Christ of Glen Rose introduces their new preacher Marvine Kelley from the Rio Grande Valley. Kelley has seventeen years in ministry, with past work in Donna and Raymondville Texas, and began in Arizona. He and wife Maxine have two sons and a married daughter. A revival starts Sunday February 2 1957 with nightly sermons at 7 pm, inviting the public to attend.
