Santa Schedules Two Visits To Glen Rose

Santa Claus plans two Glen Rose appearances this December. He will roam the streets around the square Saturday afternoon December 17 around 2:00 and return Friday morning December 23 at 10:00 to greet area children.

Simmons Named Fire Chief In Local Officer Election

Hershel Simmons was chosen fire chief and Ed Jameson as assistant chief in the annual officer election at the Fire Hall. Other officers named were Dan McCarty secretary Jim Ratliff treasurer and Kenneth Miller fire marshal. New officers to be installed at the next regular meeting per outgoing chief Lefty O Neal. Mr and Mrs J S Woodard and daughter Polly of Austin visited in the W C Woodard home Thursday.

Rainbow Church Plans Cantata

Rainbow Baptist Church announces a Christmas cantata titled The Night of Miracles by John W. Peterson. Conducted by Pastor C Edward Shipman the program begins Wednesday night December 21 at 7 30 honoring the season with a public invitation to attend.

Funeral services for Mrs Pat Rives are set for 2 p.m. today in Glen Rose Funeral Chapel with interment in Squaw Creek Cemetery. She died Wednesday.

Two to Be Ordained at Rock Creek Church

Don Lemens and Weldon Eakin will be ordained as deacons at Rock Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Martin Atkins invites area ordained men to attend the 2:50 p.m. service. Somerville County Livestock and Poultry Assn members meet at the high school ag room at 7 30 p m to plan the annual Junior Livestock and Poultry Show set for March. County Seeks Full-Time Welfare Office in County

Somervell County commissioners in regular session unanimously urged the State Department of Health and Welfare to place the local welfare office on a full-time schedule. The office, run by Mrs. M. G. McConal Sr. and Miss Frances Summers, now operates half days five days weekly, hindering service to residents. The court also appointed Sue Brown as County Home Demonstration agent and authorized Sheriff Speck Strawn to advertise and sell four abandoned autos and one pickup, with Commissioner C. D. Barnett voting no.

Stolen cow recovered on Bosque County ranch

A cow stolen in Parker County weeks earlier was recovered by Parker County Sheriff Speck Strawn at a Bosque County man's farm. It had been moved to Palo Pinto and sold at Weatherford auctions, with two Weatherford men jailed for cattle theft after the fraud surfaced. Mrs. R. L. French and Mrs. J. O. Spinks visited Isleburne on Wednesday.

Pilgrimage of Homes in Glen Rose Celebrates Christmas

The Christmas Pilgrimage of Homes in Somervell County sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi showcased decorated houses from Georges Creek to Jack McCarty's residence. Featured were European trinkets, hand painted nativity scenes, antiques, and handcrafted ceramics. Proceeds fund hearing and visual aids for county children.

Fire destroys chicken house at Gartrell home

An early morning fire about 1 a.m. destroyed a chicken house at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gartrell. Local volunteers battled a wood frame blaze as trucks arrived in frigid hours. Cause is unknown.
