Santa Claus plans two Glen Rose appearances this December. He will roam the streets around the square Saturday afternoon December 17 around 2:00 and return Friday morning December 23 at 10:00 to greet area children.
Hershel Simmons was chosen fire chief and Ed Jameson as assistant chief in the annual officer election at the Fire Hall. Other officers named were Dan McCarty secretary Jim Ratliff treasurer and Kenneth Miller fire marshal. New officers to be installed at the next regular meeting per outgoing chief Lefty O Neal. Mr and Mrs J S Woodard and daughter Polly of Austin visited in the W C Woodard home Thursday.
Rainbow Baptist Church announces a Christmas cantata titled The Night of Miracles by John W. Peterson. Conducted by Pastor C Edward Shipman the program begins Wednesday night December 21 at 7 30 honoring the season with a public invitation to attend.
Funeral services for Mrs Pat Rives are set for 2 p.m. today in Glen Rose Funeral Chapel with interment in Squaw Creek Cemetery. She died Wednesday.
The Reporter will publish children letters to Santa Claus and send a copy by jet to Santa so he can fill all orders for Christmas. Children in the Glen Rose trade area are invited to write Santa in care of the Reporter by Monday.
W B Cowan and his vocational ag classes completed repainting and decorating the community bandstand on the courthouse square, giving a festive yuletide atmosphere to the business district. Drive by to see the lit display and the town’s Christmas decorations on homes and firms.
Mrs. Vera Mitchell Lahman’s funeral drew Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Whitt to Cleburne on Saturday afternoon. Survivors include daughter Mrs. Randall Reeves of Cleburne, former Glen Rose resident.

Don Lemens and Weldon Eakin will be ordained as deacons at Rock Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Martin Atkins invites area ordained men to attend the 2:50 p.m. service. A reception at the parsonage follows, hosted by Rev and Mrs Atkins, and a Christmas program is set for Friday December 23 at 7 p.m. A public invitation is extended. Mrs. W L Russell attended her sister in law Mrs A H Smiths funeral in Cleburne, where burial occurred after a long illness.
Somerville County Livestock and Poultry Assn members meet at the high school ag room at 7 30 p m to plan the annual Junior Livestock and Poultry Show set for March. President Sam White urges all members and interested citizens to attend. Women in the homemaking group are invited to organize their part of the event in the high school Homemaking building.
High School Principal Charles Gibbs released the honor roll for the second six weeks period listing 12 students. Senior Mary Parker and Brenda Buzan lead, with juniors Judy Daniel and Linda Thompson, sophomores Lalla English and Teddy McLemore, and freshmen Larry Cowan Larry Shackelford Seldon Taylor Lisa Gibson Marilyn Gibbs and Kathy Mann among those named.
Somervell County commissioners in regular session unanimously urged the State Department of Health and Welfare to place the local welfare office on a full-time schedule. The office, run by Mrs. M. G. McConal Sr. and Miss Frances Summers, now operates half days five days weekly, hindering service to residents. The court also appointed Sue Brown as County Home Demonstration agent and authorized Sheriff Speck Strawn to advertise and sell four abandoned autos and one pickup, with Commissioner C. D. Barnett voting no.
Glen Rose Schools dismiss at 2 15 p m Wednesday Dec 21 to begin Christmas break and resume classes Tuesday Jan 2. City business firms will observe Monday Dec 26 as a full holiday since Christmas falls on Sunday.
A cow stolen in Parker County weeks earlier was recovered by Parker County Sheriff Speck Strawn at a Bosque County man's farm. It had been moved to Palo Pinto and sold at Weatherford auctions, with two Weatherford men jailed for cattle theft after the fraud surfaced. Mrs. R. L. French and Mrs. J. O. Spinks visited Isleburne on Wednesday.
The Christmas Pilgrimage of Homes in Somervell County sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi showcased decorated houses from Georges Creek to Jack McCarty's residence. Featured were European trinkets, hand painted nativity scenes, antiques, and handcrafted ceramics. Proceeds fund hearing and visual aids for county children.
The Granbury monthly musical, normally held on the third Saturday, is postponed from December 17 because of the Granbury Sweeney football game on that date. Local organizers cited scheduling conflict with the gridiron event.
Mrs. R. L. Flippin invites all area residents to visit her Granbury highway home Saturday from 7 to 10 pm. The annual open house showcases her handmade interior and exterior decorations, attracting many visitors each year.
An early morning fire about 1 a.m. destroyed a chicken house at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gartrell. Local volunteers battled a wood frame blaze as trucks arrived in frigid hours. Cause is unknown.
