Christmas Decorations and School Study in Glen Rose

Christmas spirit fills Glen Rose with holiday decor as Carroll Gann presents a nativity scene at Glen Lake Methodist Camp. The Open House at Mrs. R. L. Flippen’s Rainbow home runs Dec 16 from 7 to 10 PM. A 25 member committee will study the school system’s finances facilities and enrollment to propose solutions to crowding and funding challenges.

Christmas Pilgrimage of Homes under Beta Sigma Phi

The third annual Christmas Pilgrimage of Homes begins Tuesday at 7 pm with six local homes open to the public. Tickets cost 1 and proceeds fund eye glasses for needy children. homes include Mrs. Ben Moss and the North Parker, Maloney, Tidwell, Nabors, and Rumph residences. Refreshments will be served at Glen Lake Methodist Camp dining hall.

Community Christmas Tree Planned For December 16

The Glen Rose Somervell County area prepares a festive Christmas scene with a 20 foot East Texas Pine donated by J. O. McClister Jr of Fort Worth. Lights rise on the courthouse square tree as City crews and Hoot Williams install equipment. Dan McCarty cites an entertainment program with Ol Santa to visit that Saturday night. Local churches may sponsor events leading to Christmas.

Livestock Association to Meet Friday in Somervell

R C Sexton president of the Somervell County Livestock and Poultry Assn announces a Friday 7 pm meeting in the vocational ag building at the high school. Principal business will be plans for the annual Junior Livestock and Poultry Show to be held next March. All members and interested persons urged to attend.

A 25 member planning committee, named by the Glen Rose School Board at the November meeting, will meet tonight at 7 in the high school library for an organizational session. Superintendent J M McCroskey will outline activity and review the district finances, facilities, instructional program, and student enrollment. The group will study needs and recommend immediate and long range plans to aid Glen Rose Schools.

Christmas Cheer Funds Grow For Glen Rose Goodfellow Drive

A report shows 42.50 received this week for the Glen Rose Christmas Goodfellow Fund with total contributions reaching 90 dollars. Donations from Reporter staff, Mr and Mrs J P Sparks, anonymous givers, and Weldon Eakin are listed along with prior totals. Ministers Rev J L Glaze and Rev Willis Freeman will oversee distribution to local children, sick, and elderly, with instructions to contact the Reporter or First National Bank to donate or nominate recipients.

No Development In Shooting Incident Remains Unclear

Local law enforcement failed to yield new details about a reported shooting Saturday night November 25 in which a car carrying four local teenagers was fired upon while traveling city streets. Sheriff Speck Strawn and Texas Ranger George Roach found seven rifle slugs in the auto. no arrests or charges were filed as the report was filed. Mrs. O J Miles visits Carlsbad New Mexico with her daughter and husband Mr and Mrs M E Trice for several days.

Mrs. Glenda Freas Glen Rose School Nurse reports 103 students and adults completed the Red Cross First Aid course. The cohort includes 57 homemaking students 42 junior high students and four adults.

Three with Fractures Injured in Crash at Crossroads

Five people injured in a collision near the Crossroads six miles west of town on Sunday afternoon. Art R. Sanders of Dallas driving a pickup skidded broadside into the oncoming 1963 Oldsmobile driven by Mrs. May Hollis Croft of Proctor. Sanders and his two sons suffered multiple injuries while Mrs. Croft and her five year old son were treated for head lacerations. Both vehicles were total losses. The accident was investigated by Sheriff Speck Strawn and Highway Patrolman Joe Wylie.

Theatre Closed For Remodeling At Palace Theatre

Temple Summers announces the Palace Theatre will close for extensive interior repairs until December 28. Work includes refinished walls, a new Celotex ceiling, draperies carpeting and reupholstered seats. The theatre will reopen Friday night December 28 and run nightly through December 30. Mr and Mrs Wakefield of Silvester Md visited Mr and Mrs Jim Stout Sunday.
