First Lieutenant Lynn R. Lane of Glen Rose served with the 21st Fighter Bomber Wing six man Bombing and Gunnery Team at Wheelus Field Libya. The team won first place in the Special Weapons Phase and received a loving cup from General Robert M. Lee. Lane helped fly the wing’s 8000 mile overseas flight from George AFB California to an Air Base in northeast France. He and his wife Joan reside at Base Traier Park.

John Sid Hankins was shot to death at his home near Glen Rose on Saturday evening. A man fired three head shots as Hankins answered the door, while Mrs Hankins and children were in the house. Lawmen hunted the suspect Loyd Cooper without success and a murder indictment was expected.

Funeral services for John Sid Hankins were conducted at Glen Rose Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 4 p m with Revs J W and Verdie Pace presiding. Hankins, born April 10 1899, lived in Somervell County most of his life and died August 13 1955 from bullet wounds at his home. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs E M Hawkins Glen Rose wife Mae two daughters Mrs James Grumbles and Jamie one son Johnnie Monroe and one grandchild two sisters and three brothers Pallbearers were nephews Interment was at Ward Cemetery.
