Mr and Mrs G W Mears of Cleburne announce the birth of their son Lewis Leon Mears on August 7 at Cleburne Memorial Hospital. The newborn weighs six pounds six ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs A V Blackwell of Glen Rose.

One Runoff Set for Texas Supreme Court Place 1

Only one runoff race exists in the second primary to be held next Saturday August 23 for Associate Justice Texas Supreme Court Place 1. Candidates Robert W Hamilton and J Edwin Smith led the first primary. all six precincts in Somervell County vote. Polls run 8 am to 7 pm with about 20 election workers needed.

Traffic Accident Summary From Hillsboro Substation

R F Wallace of the Hillsboro Substation of the Texas Highway Patrol reports thirty six traffic accidents investigated in Hill Johnson Hood Comanche and Somervell counties for July. Two accidents occurred in Somervell causing six hundred dollars in property damage with no personal injuries reported.

Hamic Reunion Held in Ardmore Oklahoma

The annual Hamic Reunion gathered July 27 in Ardmore Oklahoma, a pioneer Somervell County and Chalk Mountain community group. Attendees included Judge Cecil C. Collins of Eastland Rev J L Collins of Cisco and George Hamic of Stephenville. The group voted to meet in Glen Rose next year.

Funeral rites honor former Walnut Springs resident Sonny McKinney

Funeral services for Sonny McKinney, a former Walnut Springs citizen, were held Monday in Waco after a bout of ill health. Local attendees included Jim Tom Harris, Judy Harris, Walter Ray, and Linda. The notice lists many area visitors and family movements, plus the death of Mrs. Myrtle Hill in Walnut Springs and injuries from a Granbury car wreck involving Judy Harris.

The Glen Rose HDC met at Mrs. Poindexter home with Mollie Bethea giving the devotional. They plan to attend Tres Rios camp on Monday and Tuesday this week. Attendees from Somervell County include Mrs. Bethea Mrs. Norton and Mrs. W Riddle. Next meeting will be at Mrs. Youngs home.

Rainbow HDC Meeting Plans State Convention Austin

On August 8 Rainbow HDC met with Zelpha Gambrell and nine members present. After roll call and opening prayer, plans were made to attend the state convention in Austin. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Next meeting will be at Mrs. Della Doughty's home.

Contract Set for Junior High Rest Rooms

At a special school board meeting last Thursday bids for junior high rest rooms were awarded. L & Builders Supply Co of Glen Rose bid 5760 and will complete the building by mid October. The structure will be between the junior high and cafeteria, connected to covered walks. Financing comes from a 2000 donation by the CSO with the balance from school funds.

Ed Keller Buried in Georges Creek Mon

Funeral services for Ed Keller were held Monday afternoon at 4 at the Georges Creek Tabernacle. He died Saturday night in the local hospital after an 87 year life born in Ohio and active in Georges Creek for fifty years. He belonged to Glen Rose Masonic Lodge and served as deacon. survived by six daughters and three sons.

Wilie Hart Captains South Team in All Star Game

Wilie Hart, Glen Rose all state tackle and South team captain, broke two bones in his right hand during week of practice and did not play in the Houston All-Star game. He will join Texas University freshman squad next year. Spectators included Oran Clary, Paul Schuelke, and former Glen Rose coach James Willingham of Nacona.

Rev Joe English preached at the morning service while Brother Senders spoke at the evening service. A group of 21 church members attended services at Smith Bend where C A Starnes is pastor. John Shackelford is home after two weeks at Camp Hood. Cathey Patricia Dough ty and a friend visit grandparents this week. Linda Betty and Brenda sang at Burch Hill Baptist Church in Ft Worth and were accompanied by Mr and Mrs Herman Layne. Leslie Elliott and the Van Lohs were in Ft Worth Sunday. J D Brown left last weekend for a vacation trip. The community extends sympathy to Ed Keller and family. Fourteen R A boys left for Ft Worth to attend the Royal Ambassadors Congress, staying two days and nights. Six Home Demonstration women from the Rainbow Club left for Austin to attend the state convention at Stephen F. Austin Hotel. The group will stay at Longh ers Motel owned by John Woodall.
